I bought a custom build PC on ebay and the mic input wont work
Ive had the PC now for a year, I tried using a new soundcard and got that to work once but when I restart the PC wont load until I take the soundcard out.
Ive reformatted the drive and uninstalled and reinstalled everything about 6 times in the past year and have had no luck, I think its somethin w/ my motherboard

if it is, how much for a good motherboard and how can I get this working properly? thanks

Hi danejah99, First thing I would check if you already haven't, go to the control panel, then click sounds and audio. See if the mic input is checked as muted. Most default to being muted until you uncheck it.

Prices on MB's depend on what style you have and what processor you have. Here is a good place to start.

Average price for a bare board $50. to $100. If you are going to transfer your CPU and RAM then the new board has to take those items. So read up on each board you are considering.

Onboard sound conflicting with the soundcard?

I agree with Nephilim looks like a conflict.
Go into the Bios and check to see if onboard sound is enable or disable. If enabled, disable it.
