Hello all. I've just spent several days downloading songs and creating files ready to burn onto CD. I've got 6 files in (6 CD's worth ) Soundtrax, all lasting up to 80 minutes. I've been modifying each file, saving as i go. Today, however, i cant access any of my files because it says they are 'Referenced by Nero'..........none will open up.......I'm gutted as these CD's were for a friends party and i dont think i'll be able to re-do them in time. Can anyone help?
or will i have to start again ??....Thanks in anticipation.
    Ian Smith.

When you say 6 files, do you mean you have saved 6 .npf files, one for each CD?

When you open SoundTrax, it says it can't open the .npf files?

Did you move any of the original files? I don't know what the referenced by Nero means, except something is looking at them. Do you have any other programs open using the files? Could the files be larger than 80 minutes?

I have been doing quite a bit of experimenting with SoundTrax lately, so I have learned about how it works. I suppose my first recommendation would be to close all programs, saving first, and then reboot. Reopen SoundTrax and try again. Make sure you try to open the .npf files and not something else.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I had 6 files, each one containing between 15-20 mp3's, all mixed together with the intention of burning 6, non-stop, music cd's for a friend. All of the mp3's were downloaded from limewire and stored in a seperate folder, which i still have. So, although i havent lost my songs, i have lost all the effort i put into it with the mixing etc. As i mentioned, when i try to open the files in Soundtrax it tells me they are 'Referenced by Nero'....I did try rebooting but to no avail.

I believe I understand your problem, you just need to answer the questions so I can get a better feel of what is happening.

You cannot open the .npf files with SoundTrax?

Are you running the Nero Scout?

And just in case, what software is going to be used to play back the CDs, or are they just going to play by themselves. The reason I ask is because Nero Express has an option to burn CD or DVD jukebox discs. If they are played back in something like Nero Showtime, you can look at the menu and select a particular song. I don't know if they can be arranged in some order.

Hello. In answer to your questions.......I'm using Nero 6, I dont think i'm using Nero scout because I dont know what it is, I just open Nero and go to Soundtrax. When i've downloaded the mp3's into a seperate folder I then insert them into Soundtrax and, saving as I go, using the save option in Soundtrax. I saved each project (the complete compilation) as mix1 to mix6. So when i go to 'Open' it lists the 6 projects and, if i click on any one it opens my compilation. Well......it did at first. As i said, it showed message saying it cant open the project, giving same reason for each and every mp3 track in that compilation, ie; Referenced by Nero.
Last night i stayed up until 2am re-doing mix1 and burning it all to cd using Nero......Perfect. The cd's will be played on a friends hi-fi at his party.....I hope i've answered everything you need to now...Thanks for taking time to help me out.

Your answer was good, I wish I had a response to help. I have run the utility many times and never seen that message, but I am not using MP3 files. I can see nothing in the help file that would explain your message. I have had SoundTrax error out and ended up loosing the information from the .npf file, but it has never refused to open.

All I might suggest is to try opening the .npf files using the open command and not the listed files on the menu. If that doesn't help, try moving one of the files to another location and open it from there. Or just double click the file itself and see if it will open SoundTrax.

You seem to be using many files, so perhaps that many could cause some type of problem, especially if the compilation was over 74 minutes. But no matter what, Nero should allow you to open the files and correct them.

Did you add any other software or do anything that might have interferred with Nero's normal operation?
