I have recently purchased Nero 7 Premium edition along with my 1st dvd writer and just have a question on how long exactly it takes to copy a file onto dvd video.

I have several large avi/mpeg video files (750mb-900mb/1.30mins - 2hrs) that I would like to transfer to dvd video. Using Nero Vison I selected the files that I wished to transfer to dvd video and started the burn process.

My main concern is the time it is taking to do this, the estimated time is about 2hrs 30mins, yet the orginal file I am copying is only about an hour half long.

    Is this normal?
How long should it take to convert these files onto dvd?
Am I doing anything else wrong?
    Any other advise?

    Please help, thanks in advance

The time is not necessarily out of the ordinary. You need to keep in mind if you're converting AVIs to DVD that the resultant DVD files will be about 3.5 times as big (give or take depending ...) as the original AVIs. The re-encoding takes time, longer times with slower processors.
