i have a couple of files of live gigs that are just 1 file but contain about 10-15 different songs.what software and how do i split them.thanks
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ This is what I use. It's Free and a good recorder/editor. Take a look. Good luck.
If you have Nero then you can use it to split albums. Also, if the file is an Albumwrap then you can download the Albumwrap programme for free. Just type in Albumwrap into your search engine, download the programme and unwrap the file into seperate tracks.
there actually are apps out there just for splitting long mp3 files into separate tracks. The advantage of these programs over audio editors is that they maintain the original mp3 encoding without losing any quality. in other words, if you use an audio editor like audacity, when you split the clips up and export them, the program would re-encode them to separate files, and anytime you convert a lossy format (such as mp3) to another lossy format, there is significant quality loss. there are several mp3 splitters out there. I usually use either Mp3 Splitter & Joiner or Mp3 Surgeon, however both are not freeware. But we do have a piece of software here called mp3 direct cut which is a mp3 splitter and is freeware. Have not personally tried it, but it should do the trick... http://www.afterdawn.com/software/audio_...p3directcut.cfm
I have been playing with djscoop's sugestion of Mp3 Direct Cut http://www.mpesch3.de/ for a few hours and am very impressed with it when working with mp3's only. I think it is a keeper.
