Hello Guys, First of all correct me if im wrong with me asking This question on this forum . I don't really know what place is the right place to ask the question so if im wrong someone may be able to point me in the right direction . I just really need help . I have an Avi file that's 713,616 KB large . I want to burn it do DVD Using Nero but Nero only allows 4.3 Gb's size for the picture to be clear and perfect . I tried shrink but was recieving an error message so i went pass that and I tried splitting the avi on Windows Movie Maker.I split the AVI and saved it in windows media video (WMV) . When i went to play it back the resolution was way of and the quality was alot worse . I looked in options in Movie maker and the ratio only had 2 choices 4.3. 16.9. I tried both and it didn't work . I then tried a heap of other file saving types in Movie maker and none of them would come out as good . The only one that had the same quality was DV-AVI(NTSC). But the resolution was still not the same as the original Avi and the file size was huge . Like half the Avi was now 10 GB's . All im asking in help is how can i split the current Avi in half to fit onto 2dvd's with the current resolution, quality and size . Size meaning half of what it is right now which is 713,616 KB . ?? Maybe a piece of software i could download or something to split it perfectly in half just how it is now ..Please help ?
The size (in kb) of an avi has nothing to do with it's size (in kb) once encoded to mpeg-2 for DVD. What's the running time of the video in hours/minutes? If it's ~2hours, then it will fit on one disk, depending on the video and audio bitrate you choose when encoding. Windows movie maker is NOT the tool to use for any of these operations.
thanks rebootjim . Yes im only learnign about splitting avi's and so fourth because i just purchased a new computer . I did a couple hrs of research last night and downloaded Virtualdub which split the Avi perfectly for me and it worked perfectly . umm when i tried burning the AVI in Nero it was over 4.3 GB's large and said the quality would be reduced to work . But thats all fine now i have Virtualdub. Thanks Jim ...
The point I was getting at, is the filesize of an avi has nothing to do with the filesize of an encoded mpg. Use a bitrate calculator, http://www.videohelp.com/calc input the running time of the avi, and it will tell you the bitrate to use when outputting the mpg. Nero is not the tool of choice, because it has very limited options. Virtualdub is the easiest tool to split an avi. If the running time of the avi is less than 2 hours, it will fit on one disk, no need for virtualdub to cut it.
