my son recently did an official firmware upgrade to 4.3u to play super mario galaxy 2. I am running hbc. it's working fine and I am able to play copies. I'm not using hbc to launch. I also have a wiikey dc chip installed. I want to go the usb loader route. I also had the Twilight Princess Hack and deleted the saves from the sd card. But I can't confirm if it was removed from the system memory. Would I be able to run these exploit and stay on the current fw or do I need to downgrade to 4.2u. I downloaded and installed the wehackwii package onto my sd card. I copied over the card and updated. I haven't installed the files. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I think you're a little confused on how exploits work. Smash stack, indian pwns, yu-gi-owned, bannerbomb, the twilight hack or any of the others are run only to INSTALL the homebrew channel. They arent required anymore once the channel is installed, and if you already have homebrew channel installed then you dont need them to add anything else like a USB loader.

I'm having some problems following what your saying, but from what it sounds like to me, is that you want to run stuff from a USB device (I'm assuming an external hard drive, or at the very least a jump drive). If you want to run stuff from a USB device look up USB Loader GX, and Configurable USB Loader. Both of them does essentially the same thing, but have a slightly different user interface. As for everything else you mentioned, as penguin98 stated, you might as well delete all the stuff related to the exploits.

The homebrew channel is the only thing you need to leave alone due to the future possibility of running apps/wads from your SD card/USB device. However as far as the exploits go they've already done their job by allowing you to install the homebrew channel, and are now just taking up space. Also one last piece of advice; do not update your wiis firmware, not from Nintendo, not from a disc, not from anywhere.

When you update/downgrade your Wii's firmware, all the soft modding you did just ups and disappears due to overwriting the IOS files. As a result, if you haven't already, get Priiloader installed, and have things set up by disallowing firmware updates by Nintendo from online, or from a disc. Also please keep in mind, that the newer the firmware, the more restrictions are in place. If your going to downgrade your firmware in the future the best bit of advice is to aim for version 3.2 or 3.4. There is a lot less restrictions, and fewer ways to run into bits of code that deals with disabling backups to work.

Thanks for the help. I was able to figure it out. As for the exploit, I had to use super stack because my son had used an official nintendo update. Prior to xmas, we were on 3.2u. Now we are on 4.3u. Alll is good again. Even the backups on disc work again.
