standby problem...

    hello. My problem is that whenever i turn off my computer to standby on windows xp, it goes to the screen that says turnin to standby like normal, and then it turns off my whole computer instead of puttin it into standby. Since it does this, i would have to turn on my computer from the start again. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks!

    well it doesnt give me that option when i got start->turn off computer

    under your power options, can you enable hibernation?

    press control alt delete then go to shut down, try stand bying or hibernating from there,or go to start and click off and hold shift, does the standby change?
