if possible, is there a way to get rid of all programs and files (just like reformatting) but without deleting any windows files or having to reinstall windows? i dont have a spare computer or the windows xp disc..

    Sure is...

Use Add/Remove Programs to get rid of everything in the list. (minus updates to system files like XP)

    After that's done, reboot.

Go into Program Files and manually delete all the folders you see with the exception of:

    Common Files
    InstallShield Installation Information
    Internet Explorer
    Java
    Messenger
    Movie Maker
    MSXML 4.0
    Uninstall Information
    Windows Media Player
    Windows NT
    WindowsUpdate

Then, go into your Documents and Settings folder under your username, and clear out the Application folders for the programs you did uninstall.

Last, use a registry cleaner such as RegSeeker or CCleaner to remove all the left over entries in the registry.
