I am getting a digital camcorder for X-mas and i wanted to get into artistic use with the camera, so my main question is what software can i use to manipulate and enhance the original video to, interlace with other clips and add audio. tweak the clips and stuff. maybe someone could share some light on my problem?
If you REALLY want to manipulate the video, I highly recommend Adobe AfterEffects. It's the PhotoShop for video. For just cutting/splicing with transitions there are many good (and cheaper) editors around.
