hi dont know if you have been given any advice as a newbie about your starview and which box to purchase, but i have to warn you that if your in ireland all cable channels which currently run on nagra 1 or nagra 2 will in the very near future change to nagra 3,some areas have already lost channels as i speak.there is no box or software currently available to fix this and any fix may take some time.my only advice for you is keep checking the excellent afterdawn site or other sites that you may subscribe to and wait for new info on any fixes that may arise in the future and how to use them for your particular box,and i would not purchase a new box as yet wait a few months see what happens as we all will have to,also beware of scams by nasty people trying to take advantage of some one not so experienced as your self.you dont say what starview you have but try a scan(press menu on installation click on ok button you will see cable network using the right hand arrow button go right find your provider name ntl or chorus or whoever, then using the down arrow button go to auto scan and press ok.when scan is complete press exit.(you should see all the current channels being found on screen)press exit again, and you should have installation highlighted type in on your remote 1570(make sure you point the remote at the box when doing this)now nagravision should be highlighted, using the down arrow button go down to the end of screen to key emu,to the right of key emu it should say (on)if it says off use the right arrow button to to make it say on press exit press exit again and you should be back on to the tv channels see if they work(if not follow above instructions again making sure key emu says on)if all is well but still no pay channels, check for free channels like euronews or god channel just to make sure you have a signal,if you have free channels you have asignal, you can enter unscrambling codes easily by hand sadly i cant give you these codes as it is a strict rule of this forum, but if you go to edited by ddp register with them its free and easy then down load their free toolbar (this will show you all available descrambling codes)i.e chorus ntl etc.then by pressing menu on your box on a highlighted installation type in 1570 then you will see a highlighted nagravision press ok button, using right arrow button on provider id untill you find your provider(the same as you did when scanning for channels)below provider id it says key number this will say either 00 or 01 i would say for ease of use set it to 00 by using the right arrow button(do not type in 00)then using your down arrow buttongo down to where it says key data, here is where you enter your code(which you will find in your new toolbar,my toolbar as displayed automaticaly on top of the screen when i go on line)note you will have to install the tool bar first.to enter anumber you just use the number keys on the remote,to enter lettersyou have to use various other buttons(pause=a b=audio c=red button d=green button e=yellow button f=blue button)this info appears on the bottom of your screen below key data.on the tool bar you will see 2 banks of codes example 00:1a 2b 3c 4d 5e 6f 01 02 below you will see similar but instead will start 01:1a 2b 3c 4d 5e 6f 01 02.(note:these are not real codes only examles of what they may look like)when you have entered the first set of codes use your up arrow button and return to key number use your right arrow button and change 00 to 01.go back down to key data using down arrow button and enter the second line of your code.when this is done press ok button to store your new codes.(to make sure that codes are stored when pressing ok button look to the bottom of your tv screen where it says (ok)store this should flicker for a second or two.now press exit, use your down arrow button go down and check key emu make sure it says on ,if it says off use right arrow button and off will turn to on.press exit press exit again and you should be returned to working tv channels.however as i say this is only temporary and you will lose all channels in the near future.if i can help you any more let me know.be lucky

from what i got from this site and others,is that the uk cable encryption wont change for a while,as they probably want to check out how irish cable companys fair with the new nagra3 system, also their trying to get broadband up and working so you may get at least this years free viewing out of your starview.they have all you need to flash your starview in the uk on this site, plus lots of info and great help.just make sure before flashing that your box is not a clone,if it is you will need clone firmware to flash it.good luck.
