Hi lads, I have an old SV1 clone. It's been working away grand for ages and all of a sudden it stopped powering on. No light, nothing. I've checked the fuse and that's fine. Any ideas? I have no problem changing capacitors if need be.

    Regards,

    Gary.

In that case I would recommend changing the C11 cap on the PSU. Cheap as chips and an easy fix. It is usually the cause of a PSU failure.

    Thanks for the reply

Sorry to be a pain, but do you have any info on the cap, what value it is, where on the board etc.

    Thanks a million.

It says c11 on the board beside it, there is only a few caps on the powersupply board.
The value is written on the side of it

Its of no value replacing it with the same cap as that is the problem in the first case. The original C11 is 10V 1000uf, you need to replace it with a 16V 1000uf.

Maplins part number is VH50E. Here is an old pic by Martinme I gave him info on the earlier cap value when he made it http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/725/svcapfixpnggv2.png but the cap value has raised since.

Alright chaps, I did exactly as the instructions suggested, even though the solution was for the "0 on Starview Display". Unfortunately even with the new cap, the box is still as dead as a doornail. Also there was no buzzing noise whatsoever when I powered it up after removing the c21 cap, so it sounds like I have a different problem. Additionally the c11 cap that I removed was a 16v 1000µF one.

    Any ideas now?

Also since I was there I took some high resolution photos of the area in question, for reference purposes, in case they might be of benefit to anyone. Here they are:

Not really a tut spectra7 but yes I know what you mean, there's a few that cant be bothered to write there own, no names mentioned, they know who they are and so do a quite a few. Just wanted the pics as they are such good quality and will help others later on. I always think it's best to ASK before taking/using other peoples work out of forum etiquette but there's a few out there that don't. It will always be the same with this scene, sad as that maybe.

Edit: Apologies Gadge64, didn't mean to hijack your thread :)

    Thanks spectra7 / not spectra17 :)

Just reading through your issue Gadge64, can you try a multimeter on the outputs from the PSU, unplug the PSU from the main board and test the outputs V to what it shows on the board, you will then know whether you need to buy a new board.

Also to reply, when turning the box on can you hear at all a very faint clicking sound?.

    Thanks lads.

Work away with the pics HiTteck, I took those photos for that very reason, so it might help someone else.

As for the box, there is no sound whatsoever when plugged in.

    I'll try what you suggested.

    Cheers.

    Hi HiTeck

I have a similar issue. No power, no lights, but I do hear a very faint clicking noise. Is this a c11 issue. I have the ugly PVR version. Not sure its a clone tho. Many thanks for any help you can offer.
