Ok so heres my sad story, my workmate told me about his eurovox and i couldnt believe what i was hearing, so with me being a vir$*n subscriber (broadband only) i asked him if i could borrow his eurovox for the night and test it on my line. I pluuged it all in and hey presto all channels came up straight away. ACE i though i gotta get me one of these. So with much ebaying and research i bought a box, i got a 1st generation starview ( the bloke ibought it off said he didnt think it was a clone, and had it working 4 months ago) the box has a genuine remote and ive opened it up and it looks like a genuine (im comparing off the pictures tha have been posted on this site) any hows i plugs it in everything exactly the same as the eurovox and .........nothing, no channels found. I looked at what firmware was on the box and it is the v400ee which i believe to be correct? so i did a factory reset went into the secret menu ad turned emu on and then chose my provider TW then did and automatic scan, nothing 0 channels found. i have scanned all providers on the box and none of them bring up anything. Now i have tried to reflash the box but that doesnt work either, comes up failed all the time, i am usibg the correct cable to to this and leave the box on stanby whilst doing so. nightmare!, so heres my questions. I know my line is live having tested with eurovox, so why no signal? if you do a factory reset, shouldnt the firmware be something different, i noticed it always stops at the same version as what it came with? and last but not least do you think ive been robbed with a duff box! Try the Crypstar-v1.4- Core 2.57 bin. You`ll need the GTRom loader V4.0 also. Both can be found in the starview folder in eamos under my sig. Have a read of the second link under my sig for updating problems etc. Best of luck.
Hi, havnt tried yet, but a few questions if i may before i do. I have clicke do the links you provided and they provide good info, so thanks for that. Questions when i am doing the scan on my provider, the emu is on but the keys are not correct, i know this but it should still pick up the channels right, the only thing being they would be scrambled? I was using the software loader version 4, but not loading the software you have suggested , i will try this today. The com port i was using is com 1 ad was working correctly, i was trying to flash with the same version of software that is already on it, would that be why it was failing? on my menu the parental lock option has gone green and skips it in the menu, but i presume that because i have know channels tuned and this will return to normal once (if) i hsve? Is this no signal problem common with starview boxes? as in, i have a cable which i have put the connectors on myself, i though this was the problem but eliminated by using a cable with moulded plugs on, still the same 'no signal' Do i need to put anything else in before i scan, or will just entering the correct provider do, the box will do the rest? Have you come across this problem before? Thanks in advance. (i will be testing shortly, but mrs bibbaboo is getting slightly angry!!) for a bit of background, about my self, i used to have technomate 1000d satellite system pointing at astra hotbird, and so are quite used to keys EMU's and software updates ETC. I get this horrible feeling i may have a duff box but dont want to admit it!! Anyhow i will follow your advice to the book, once again thanks for the help.
Jaysus that was a mouthfull lol. Flash it first with the info i gave you & we`ll take it from there. I`d say your b0x is ok, it just needs to be updated. Theres always someone here if you have any problems
ok so im trying to flash with the software suggested, not happening, errors after about 10 secs of doing nothing 'flash update failed' com port is ok? other suggestions, loader is showing m=stb model as GCR 3510, does that sound about right?
im using a rs232 cable (2 female ends) im on a laptop, that shouldnt make a difference, should it? the cable was bought new yesterday from maplins, paid through the bleedin nose for it! its on COM1 (the same as in device manager on pc) and this shows as working correctly. and teh baud rate of 115200
There seems to be alot of problems flashing boxes with vista & laptops ( i take it you have vista). If you know someone with xp on their computer, it will work no problem.
well im on a crapy old laptop running xp, but the laptop is old and quite outdated, so your suggesting i take it to my shed and conect it to the mothership! ok. i will try that, in all fairness, when i used to update my technomate i used to do it off the main computer, so im going to put my jacket on and venture off to the shed, will let you know what happens, thanks for sticking with me!!
im in the shed nad just tried, still nothing, same error flash update failed. when i turn the box on after it being on standby, the lcd displays 'on' is this correct, bearing in mind its not tuned in at all
Hi Noel Looks like a standard RS232 lead to me and not a Null modem cable. Always the same problem when getting them from Maplins staff.
