Hi I wonder if anybody can help me

I am having trouble flashing my genuine starview2 with the latest fireware.

I have a USB to serial adapter and have it running:
'Prolific usb to serial comm port' - in device manager (COM2) under ports COM & LPT
I have a lead that was provided with my box labeled SL-901 (null modem)

I am using the lastest loader and firmware:

    v4.03_051005
    thebox_h20081204_455eE_api

Im currently running V4.51e on my box and have followed the bad flash guide at: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/531363#3215755

The progress bar on the loader stays at 0% for about 30 seconds then I get the flash update error message I have tried the flash on standby (the time is on the display) and when the box is running and tired turning it off and back on and so on with no luck

any help would be appeciated im running out of ideas!

edit: have also tried different ports 1 - 4 range no luck!!

You need to switch the box off at the back then on when it says on you have to prest ok then exit 4 times to get it in boot mode

New to the site but thought I'd reply to this post rather than start a new one as I've got the exact same problem. Unfortunately can't provide a solution but hopefully someone else can??

I'm also using a USB to Serial adaptor with a Null modem cable, (both new from Maplin!!)The only difference is that my existing firmware is the 4.52 version and my Windows version is XP.

After reading the bad flash guide I've tried flashing the box about 20-30 times, using the latest loader and firmware. I've checked and varied all the COM Ports, turned the box on and off, reset the factory settings etc, all with no success.

Any further help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!

I solved this issue and flashed the box successfully first time - it was a communications error between my pc and the box so I asked if I could use a mates pc with a built in serial port and it worked in my case it was something to do with the usb device although i did install the recommended drivers for it.

From personal experience, and that of several people I know, the one change I'd make to the various flashing guides posted on the net is to tell people to only use a USB-Serial adaptor as a last resort. Not only Vista has issues with them, and if a PCI Serial card is ever an option, it should ALWAYS be chosen before one of those things. Of course for people with laptops, it isn't a luxury they can afford. If you have a desktop with a spare PCI slot, though, you can pick up one on eBay for as little as £5 (the cheapest one on eBay is the one I bought....worked first time and the USB adaptor got chucked in the bin). I'm always curious as to why the PCI card option is mentioned AFTER the USB adaptor option in most guides when clearly so many people are having issues with them. :/

I had the same problem with my son lap top could not down load from the usb hub using the USB-Serial adaptor through a serial 9 pin to 9pin null modem cable. Found no “com ports” in manager etc, down load drivers needed from the net.picked up my usb adapter when I connected it, worked a treat, also was using vista.

By the way a small point, flashing with the short Fix for the sv2 then using the 5.54 – 802 fix you loss the text services on bbc 1 + itv.

    Regards vic

It was the 4.55e update that does not load the text, It is my sister phoning me early this morning moaning she could not check her lotto numbers off the text services.

Strange, because it is fine this end with 4.55, but as you say, small price to pay, for an easier life, cheers ;)

But API 8.02e 30th Nov is an SV3 fix, 8.02e 3rd Dec (later 5th Dec) is the SV2 fix.

Easy to get mixed up. Personally, I would have named them differently....it would be easy to flash the wrong box with them having the same name.

Has anyone noticed they haven't rolled the keys since last Thursday morning? (4th Dec/10:23am). Is it normal that VM go mad with it for a week or so and then stop rolling them after everyone has flashed? :/

It's annoying, my remaining acquaintances with unflashed boxes are all saying they don't need the fix...as they have Thursday's codes in and the boxes are still working. I'm going to tell them if they start rolling them over Christmas, they can bugger off if they think I'm answering the phone every two minutes giving codes. Either flash now...or p*ss off mythering me! :)
