starview 3 problem -only works for a few mins at a time

    Hi all, i have a problem with my new starview 3 box, wich hopefully somebody could shed some light on!
    i have managed to update firmware to v705e , scanned for channels ok but only get to watch channels for a short time before they scramble again (sometimes 1 hour sometimes just a couple of minutes), then i cant get anything for hours, even if i try a fresh scan for channels it doesn't find any .
    Provider is vi**in media (N*L), was wondering if it could be something like a weak signal or is there a battery inside the starview box that holds the channels in memory that could need replacing?

    You can ttry this and see if it helps

    Menu > Factory Setting
    PIN 0000
    OK to delete

    Turn box off at the back for a minute and turn back on

    English > Installation
    Choose Provider etc
    Automatic Scan
    Press OK
    Channels found
    Exit

    Press Menu then 1570
    Turn EMU key ON

    Exit , exit , exit

    Thanks for your reply celtic71 , tried it exactly as you said, but still only managed two or three minutes before getting the 'scrambled or bad channel' sign.

    Ok go to Menu then 1570 and press "Set Default Key" and exit back to viewing , go to S*Y Sports and it should update for you , also double check the EMU is ON

    Trying to carry out your instructions as we speak, problem now though
    is that i cant exit past language screen to channels (ie sky sports to let it update itself) as it has not found any programs, even though it found them earlier, it just seems to loose them , keep trying an automatic scan but will prob take a couple of hours before it manages to actually find some again,
    sorry to be a nuisance !
    I have ordered a r232 - usb adaptor so that i can try reflash the box
    from my laptop, but not holding out much hope of that curing the prob because if it was a firmware prob i probably wouldn't be able to get anything even for a couple of minutes would i ?

    are u scanning thru a splitter or extension as these can give problems ,also make sure coaxial is in and tight.

    cable is quite long prob about 6-7mtr , and although i havn't used a splitter, there is one in the external box to split 1 incoming line into 2 (one for broadband , 1 for tv) was using exactly the same set up for original ntl box with no probs,

    Have you tried reverting to 6.01 firmware?

    Im not sure if this will help

    Make sure your N*L cable is in the "Cable Input" socket at the back of the Starvi*w

    Then press OK to select English
    Press Ok to select Installation
    Choose Provider etc
    Automatic Scan
    Press OK
    Channels found
    Exit back to viewing

    Press Menu then 1570
    Go down to the last option
    Turn EMU key ON

    Exit , exit , exit

    If no channels are found ,Repeat the scanning part till you get some channels

    Will try installing 6.01 firmware, as soon as my cable arrives, is there a way to delete 705e firmware first to avoid conflict?, also is it worth buying a plug in signal booster? when i check signal strength
    on any channel it seems to fluctuate between 70 - 95%

    Theres no point ereasing the 705e firmware unless you have the cable ,and even when you get the cable the 601 just overwrites it, the signal booster issue, sometimes a stronger signal causes more harm than good to the viewing!

    Just a quick update, managed to get hold of a signal booster today (just a cheap one from argos) plugged it in and so far all seems well, managed to get a couple of hours viewing up to now with only a very brief loss of signal , but not gone off altogether as it has been doing, one or two channels have a bit of distortion , wich is
    probably what desb was talking about, but fairly sure we are heading in the right direction now.
    Thanks for all your contributions up to now , will let you know how it goes, could be a possible solution for others suffering from similar problems.

    7.05 has different tuner drivers hence why I said try reverting to 6.01, although if you have a cable issue thats a different story.

    aaaaaaaargghhhhh! lol , went off again last night about 11.00 pm, been able to get nothing on it since, will try 6.01 drivers as soon as i can .

    New firmware for the The Super will be out in a few days to fix all these problems, hopefully.

    cool, will wait for the new drivers,my wife is now sick of me fiddling with her box while she is trying to watch the tv! , ;) !!!
