Just got a genuine starview 3 the box super today which is clean. I have read the forum on flashing but I'm sorry to say that I am a little confused as to what versions to use.

    Do I use GTROM v4.00 with Cryptstar - V1.4 core 400 genuine

    or

Do I just use 7.09 firmw@re for THE SUPR B0X (as v8.00 has problems)on its own.

    Please Help

7.09 has a built in loader. download it and press download at the bottom of it to put the firmware on the box (using a null-modem cable).

Thanks steo2k8 I will try that tomorrow as i need to get a F Plug to F Plug Lead for my box to connect to N*L/V1RG1N. I will reply tomorrow if the sofware does or doesnt work.

In your view is 7.09 the best firmware update at the moment ?

on newer boxes it's the best. mine kept rebooting on other versions at random times but with 7.09 it doesn't.

my boxes keep reboot ind andi did get the download from my suppliers a while ago not sure which version, but never got roudn to doing it. But ive notived that both my boxes have started rebooting at similar times now each night.

Plus i have one other thing to ask. the size of the watchable screen has changed and no matter what i try and set either the box or my tv to i still cant get a full screen as before. Anyoen know why. for example i iused to get the whole ofthe picture say tottenham now which ever screen size i change it to ie 16:9 or 4:3 or letter full etc all i now get is tenham or instead of sports i get orts - like the picture has been squashed .

Anyone got any ideas on whats happened or why please
sorry if its on antoher thread but just foudn this thread on the starview boxz 1st

Sorry to say most channels are broadcast in 4:3 with letterboxing so look crap on a widescreen TV. As long as the Starview is set to 16:9 and the TV the same then that's the best you will get until the channels get their act together.

In order to test your widescreen tv on 16:9 is to set the SV on fullscreen put it on bbc news24 which is correctly broadcast in 16:9 and this particular channel transmits the correct pids picked up by the box and sent to the tv which displays the full widescreen image.

Many programs on cable are still transmitted as 4:3 or 14:9 not 16:9 and so if you are using a widescreen tv that is set for 16:9 the picture will not fill the screen. If you switch the SV to fullscreen the picture will then fill the widescreen tv but the image is sampled to fill the screen but is compressed and flattened. This is an incorrect setting and there wont be a fix for that apart from understanding that it is not meant to fill the screen unless the program is broadcast in 16:9. What is shown on your tv, is the settings on the tv adjusting for the SV's failings.

I figured out the problem the wall socket was disconnected when nthell put broadband in upstairs. So i disconnected my broadband and plugged it into my box. I got in to the secret when but when i go on to sly sports it just says updating 0%. I left it for about 20 minutes but it just said the same updating 0%.

ok will try again tomorrow as connected to the internet now.

To get my nthell socket working downstairs i would need a splitter can i just split the connection to get the socket back working again? At the moment the feed is still there just not connected so would a splitter work ?

Splitter in and box working perfectly.

I get about 412 channels i hope this sounds about right as all the main channels seem to be there i just pray that it will update when the channels get scrambled.

I also guess you cant use the red button for on deemand channels.

    Intrigued by this thread !!
I have probably the original Starview The Box, pretty basic model but does exactly what it says on the box...
Am thinking of buying another one for the kids to view all their cartoon channels etc. but I don't see the original model I bought still for sale. Looking at this thread, I see there are a possible 412 channels I could pick up. Is that only with a newer model Starview box ? Am on Nthell, btw...
