    Hi,

I got a starview 3 super box today. And after reading the threads on this site I went out and bought a female to female null modem cable to download the required firmware. Unfortunately my laptop only has a female connection for the null modem. So my question is, Will the download work ok with a female to male null modem cable or am I better off getting a usb adapter?

Sorry if its a stupid question.... but i am an absolue amateur when it comes to this sort of thing....

    Appreciate your help in advance....

Thanks for your help.... Is there such a thing as a USB to female serial adapter? As I see on the link that Celtic put up about this the adapter is USB to male serial adapter.... And I can't seem to find one on the maplins website....

Null modem cables are female to female hence the requirement for a male USB adapter. Are you sure you have a Null modem cable and not a standard RS232 cable which looks similar?

Yeah definitely have a null modem cable.... I bought it seperately from peats.... I was thinking i need to swap it for a usb adapter that would plug directly into my sv3 box but what you are saying is i need to have the usb adapter out of my pc.... connect the null modem cable to the adapter and connect the null modem to my sv3... Is that right?
