hello all i hope someone can help

i've just updated the firmware to 1.02b and from 1.01b because the picture would go on the channel when you changed it sometimes but the sound would still there and I was hoping the update would sort it out ..

problem is now after it installed the update it rebooted and now its stuck, it wont load up

when you turn it on it normaly starts will the display saying 8888 and then goes to 8882 then says (think its) b-1 then comes on, my problem is that it stuck at 8882 and wont go past it..

Is there anyway to do a flash recovery like in the previous models .. ??

    please help ...

you carnt do a factory reset when you get the 8882 error code the box is toast it WILL NOT boot .. i.e. you get no menu screen, you dont even get the logo screen when its booting up..

Until someone figures out how to a recovery flash or a cmos reset (like a motherboard) I would SERIOUSLY avoid this model (one wrong flash and its £115 down the toilet)

Im now intrigued as to why your so persistent to know where i bought the box from, I can only assume you are a seller of these boxes on your website or on fleabay, be assured the site I bought the box from are very helpful by offering a replacement or a refund ..

if i was to say it was for instance i bought it from wizzardsatellite, bubblecableboxes,simplesat,dvb-shop and so on someones gonna say forget that im not going there to buy it, when its a fault with the box itself.

You are quite right I am new to this forum and if i have made you somewhat uncomfortable then accept my apologize,

if you have a possible fix for myself, nando_9 and no doubt others new and exciting members to this problem then please let us know .. if it works then it will probably become a sticky/guide if not it will let other people know that it didnt work and another solution must be found.

ezop give scOuser a break, I've been on this site for around 18 months and he is a really helpful guy.
He and a few others are really the guru's of this site.
Yeah our problem is a right royal pain in the arse.

I finally downloaded v 1.02 firmware off 4shared on the 25th after half a day of trying, ezop did you do the same?....wonder if this is new (dodgey) firmware ....this is probably a long shot though.
I then tried to put it on the dam box and it stuck at 8% whilst loading. Still no change after half an hour, so turned box off to try again. But when you switch on box says 8888 for a second or two, then sticks at 8882. No start up screens, nothing ....deado.
Any help would be great. Unless a £115 gamble hasn't paid off.

    Come on you redmen

yea i downloaded the v1.02 from 4shared but it completed the flash in about 8 seconds and it said it something like it would take 15 seconds to reboot, it shut down but never came back on its stuck on 8882

sorry for being rude, it was a mixture of beer, tiredness, frustration at the damn box and probably me being a bit of a dick. if you can help i would realy appreciate it, i bought the box from www.skywonder.co.uk

Cheers folks, (especially Des for his graphical approach) ;) @ezop I understand your frustration there is another firmware on the way.

Not saying both yourself and nando's cases are isolated but the majority of users find 1.02 quite stable. May be the case as usual of one or two bad apples that unfortunately you guys have had the misfortune of been landed with.

Every box has there problems both on the open sourced and closed side. If we were to "avoid" every box because it had a problem then there would be very little reason for these particular forums. Problems are just solutions waiting to be found.

Or as Mick said you main recourse should be the boys at SW replacing it. As said they shouldn't have any problems.

yea i understand that every box is not the same and especially since this is a new box with beta firmware but lets i do send it back get a replacement, flash it again and it does the same thing again or something else goes wrong (do a factory reset and it stops working), i carnt just keep sending it back time after time after time, surely there must be a way of a recovery otherwise the resellers are going to be a lot out of pocket .. is it worth me either asking for a refund or asking for a completely different box like the eurovox or a sf3 if this box can not recovered.

Entirely up to you but out of experience with all boxes including the SV4. If you send a box back and get a replacement its highly unlikely that you will get the same error.

If you like have a look at the Eurovox EX5000 same type of single tuner PVR.

    Hi Guys
I'm thinking of exchanging for a eurovox pvr. The reason I opted for SV4 is that I had a SV pvr twin tuner for well over 12months with not that much problems (mainly recording issues).

What else can anyone do to fix our problem?, we can't change anything on startup screen because we don't get a screen. Apart from someone going inside the box, personally (my layman opinion) I think they are kaput.
Now will the shop exchange if I have attempted to add firmware? They say they won't on the T&C's.

    sc0user is my thinking correct,
    Any advice would be grateful

As I have asked the question and was told there is a firmware release coming soon, to address issues like this.

But if you want to change for a Eurovox PVR by all means do. T&C I have seen with from some sellers, but lets be honest if you wanted FTA you would go with a freeview box. I think they will understand. If they dont help you out please let us all know who they are.
