    Hi,

Has anyone got Media Centre working with the starview box? I now have a Starview 3 and all channels are scanned in correctly so 101 is BBC 1 etc. The IR blaster which used to change the NTL box channels does not work with the Starview Box. Any help appreciated!

    Thanks!!

    Hey NGT,

Have you managed to fix your issue? I had a SKY STB and all was fine. Yesterday i changed to the Starview3 and all is good. You realise that you have to go throught the whole STB set up phase again right?
This involves all of the remote learning codes etc.
Let me know if you need any help and ill see what i can do.

    Hi Muz..

Yes, I got Starview 3 working thanks.. I still can't get the Media Centre box to change the Starview 3 box though. It just won't accept the Infa Red changes!

    Thanks.

    Hey again NGT,
I am going on the presumption that you have the IR sensor placed over the round see through window on the front of the SV3 box?
If not, you can see it easily if you shine a torch at it. Also, i noticed that the adhesive on mine wore off so i used some tape to stick it on to the box with the white part of the IR facing away from you.
If you have done all of that, i would suggest hooking it up to your old box and seeing if that works, just to rule out a problem with the IR itself. Mine failed before for no apparant reason.
Just out of curiosity, did you relearn all of the codes for the new remote? If not (And MCE recognised your remote) i would suggest relearning them all again.
    Hope this helps m8

I'll check the IR first by putting it back on my original NTL box.

When I originaly put the IR on the Starview I moved it around for about 30 mins (whilst changing channels on MediaCentre with my remote) to see if I could get the right point... no luck. I think I can see where the IR receiver is in the Starview box but I'll check with a torch.

Do you mean relearning the the media centre remote? Currently this still works fine and all the correct numbers come up on the screen and the menu changes ..What I don't know if the Starview box would recognise this? This could be the problem.. I assumed that because the IR blaster chancged the NTL box from day 1 the same would happen for the Starview? A friend of mine set up Media Centre for me and I watched him do it.. I can't remember him training the Media Centre remote though. This has got me thinking now... how did Media Centre know to send the relevant codes through the IR blaster to that when "1" is pressed on the Media Centre remote it would have the same effect as pressing "1" on the NTL remote?

Thanks for your help and time with this by the way!!!

    Hi again NGT,

If you pull up the main screen on Media Centre and go to settings. Pull up TV set up (Or something like that). When you start the set up, it will say something along the lines of this will change your current set up (or something similar). Select yes. Select "Cable" as your source. It will then check your TV card for an input and ask you to select which input you are using (This is usually selected automatically).
The rest is fairly self explanitory. It will ask you to press and hold digits 1-0 on your Starview remote so that it can learn the codes. It will then ask you to press channel up & channel down etc.

I will make up a guide for you later and post it up for you.

    Hi tmck2,

Just a couple of things before i can help you (i am fairly sure that i can).
    1. Are you setting this up for the first time?
    2. What system are you using i.e. Vista or Media Centre 2005?
    3. What TV card are you using and what input are you using to go from the SV3 to your PC i.e. Composote, S-Video etc

If you have set up MCE before then you dont need to post that info up.
You need to go to set up your TV signal within Media Centre.
It will go through instructions on the screen telling you what you need to do. When you get the option, choose "cable".
It will then show a bunch of inputs and the one you are using (make sure you have your SV3 box on and a channel like MTV displaying 1st!)
If you are not getting anything showing up and all of the boxes are black, then i suggest that you are possibly using the wrong input on your TV tuner. I would imagine that you probably took a coax from the back of the SV3 to the input on your TV card. This wont work.
What you need to do is to run a yellow composite lead from the back to the SV3 and run it to the video in on your TV card.
Run the set up wizard again and you should see your SV3 displayed. The wizard should walk you through the rest.
If you are still having issues, reply and ill help you as quick as i can.

    Hey man,
Sorry it took so longfor me to reply.
I think i know what the problem is here.
You are using the remote that came with your Hauppage TV card yes? In Media Centre (Both Vista and XP) you need to get the MCE IR unit. You can pick one of thes up for about 25Euro or so.
Basically you hook the IR reciever up via USB. You get 2 leads with a jack on one end and a small IR on the other. When you plug in the USB,the unit will auto install (I recomend Windows update afterwards as there was a firmware upgrade for the unit).
You need to plug in the jack into the IR and then place the other end of the IR onto the SV3 box.
Sounds complex but believe me, its the easiest part of setting up the Media Centre. Here is a link to the unit you need
P.S. you dont need to use the remote that came with your Hauppauge card by the way. This remote is only used for controling the WinTV application.
Need anything else, let me know :)

    Hi Guys,

Sorry to change the subject alittle.
But this seems to be the best place for this question.]

Has anyone successfully setup a Eurovox MaxV or a Eurovox PVR with Windows Media Centre. ?
By that I mean Media Centre changing the channels on the STB, with either the MCE or VMC remote.

    Thanks Guys.

    @Muzzles,

I'll give it a try tomorrow, while the family are out ]
You must be one of the lucky people that never got one of the Pace D1000 or D4000 cable boxes.

When MCE2002 was released I was able to persuade Hauppauge to send me compatible Mpeg2 Capture card, but I could never persuade TelePest to swap my Pace STB for a SA one.

Ended up having to use a RedEye, which worked fine but made the setup a real pain. Although it got easier with MCE04 and 2005.
Never tried VMC as we had a TVDrive by then.

    Hi Muz..

Thanks for replying to the question aimed at me.. I've not been able to log on for a few days.. With reference to Zafod's question I assume if he trains Media Centre with the Eurovox remote then this will surely work.

NOt sure if you'll be able to help with another query.. I have a Starview 2 box running upstairs with a cable running through my Starview 3 box. When I scan the channels in only about half of them hae the actuall channel names.. the rest are numbers.. I also get a load of "pace" channels that didnt appear on my Staview 3. I've re-scanned a number of times but don't get all the names.. I've gone into a number of channels and founs Sky Sports 2 and 3 and have re-named them. Is there a way of doing this in one go? .. Could I export the channel names from my Starview 3 and import them into my Starview 2 using the Starview Channel editor?

    Thanks again

    NGT.

    Hi guys,
i also had issues with mce when it was first released. It seemed to take MS a long time to sort them out. I am using VMC now and i have to say i prefer it (especially on my 47" Sony Bravia ;)
@NGT, i am sure if you have a look around the forum, you can find a channel dump. I think that you can take the dump off the SV3 and trasfer it over. I would suggest however that you look at the cable that you have used to connect the 2 together. Sounds to me like you may have signal issues. If you know any sparks, ask them for some RG6 coax or some CT100 and it may solve this problem for you. If you have signal issues with the extension its easier to sort them now rather than later.
also, i must say the picture off these boxes is horrible and can get very pixalated. Hope SV bring out somethin nicer in the future. Cant complain though. A crappy picture is better than the fortune i was spending with SLY ;)

    Hi Guys,
Played with this for most of the afternoon.
I got MCE05 and VMC to both identify the Eurovox remote and to learn its codes.
In fact everything worked fine.]

My only problem is the channel numbers, MCE/VMC list them in the Vermin order starting at 101, but the Eurovox is listing them from 1 to 253. Anyone have any ideas about re-ordering them.
I don't want to think about sitting here doing them one by one. :eek:/

I remember there was alot moaning on the MS Newsgroups and Forums when MCE swapped from 2004 to 05, which turned out to be the TV companies dragging their feet.

It seems a simular thing is happening again with Fiji and S*Y/D*R*CT TV

Today is the first time i've really played with VMC, I'm having trouble getting used to the left/Right controls ]
Only had it running on a 17" so far. I'll need permission before I can use the TV.

That pixelation could be partly down to Vermin, I've noticed alot more of it, on alot more channels since the switch from TelePest.
