    Looks like you have a genuine SV, so get the CryptStar-v1.4 firmware from the eko link at the end of my post. Flash your box with that, it's the latest autoroll firmware for genuine SV. You'll find it in the StarView / Firmware directory.

    use a null modem cable to flash your receiver

    do the following m8

    GMRom loader v4.00

    COM SETTING
    Serial Port - COM1
    Baud Rate - 115200

    STB Settting
    STB Model - (leave this as it shows on the screen)donot add anying here , it should a set of numbers , pickedup from your receiver
    Bin File - CryptStar-v1.4-core400.bin

    FILE TYPE - App File Only

    then click on the Download button

    when it has completed downloading to you receiver , the receiver turns off & back on by itself , then you are ready to go

    OK. Now you say that what you have looks like a copy. Look at the vents on top of the box, and see which of these matches;

    First Generation = 13 x 7 vents
    Genuine = 25 x 7 vents
    Clone = 18 x 7 vents

    If you do have a clone, do not attempt to put anything other than 2.57eE_FIXED firmware on to it. At the moment, it will not autoroll the codes when they change, but it won't kill your SV. There is currently no new firmware release to fix the autoroll. Wait until you see one of the guys on here such as scouser or Celtic71 saying that there is a new release, safe and tested for the clones.
    It is a pain to manually input the codes when they change, but it's less pain than jtagging a dead box, trust me.

    Just hang fire for a few minutes. It's so long since I needed to do this, I'm just downloading the firmware and gtrom. I also have no way to connect to the SV at the moment, I just want to look at something.
    Did you download this file?
    (2) STAR_VIEW_H20060816_257eE_api_FIXED.bin
    From the link at the end of my post, from the starview / firmware directory. I've just tried that now, with the gtrom software, and it automatically filled in the STB as GCR 3510.

    You need a null modem cable for this. You should have got one in the packaging that you got your SV in. You should be able to get one from any good computer / electronic shop. It is a 9-pin female to 9-pin female lead. If you don't have a serial port ( most new laptops ), you will also need to get a usb to serial adaptor.

    Take a look at this link for examples from Maplin;
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/528527/3197602

    Both links still point to the correct cables. It absolutely has to be a NULL MODEM cable, not an RS232, which will look exactly the same if it is a 9-pin female to 9-pin female. You'd be surprised how many shop assistants will say they are the same thing, they ARE NOT

    You need a NULL modem cable connected to COM1 or the serial port on your pc ... the other end plugs into the starview.
