Starview box

Hi
Im new to this froum and hope someone can help me. I have just been given a starview box ( I think it the original box ver 1) and it was working fine and now evrytime I turn it on it says data being updated and nothing happns how can I get it to work again. i have been told I need to update it how do I do it and where do I get the update? I also have been told I need a cable but what one? Sorry for all the questions butI am new to all this.i would be really gratefull for any help.
