    hi

    i have starview 1 box and have few questions

    1. how do i find out what firmware i have on my box, can i see this on screen by pressing a special code?

    2 is this the latest firmware?
    STARVIEW_H20070607_400eE_api.bin (on ekos file share site)
    is it true if you have this firmware you wont have to keep typin in update codes?

    3 when updating firmware does the starview box need to plugged and swithed on at a channel or on standby or OFF?

    Thanks in advance

    Press Menu > System Information and tell us what the API is please

    You will need version 4.00 firmware for GENUINES found in "Starvi*w" firmware folder.
    You will need version 2.57_FIXED firmware for CLONES found in "Starvi*w" firmware folder.

    You will need to know if you have a clone or genuine

    Count the vents on top

    18x7 = Clone
    25x7 = Genuine
    13x7 = 1st Generation

    Also looking from the front
    Scart to the left = Clone
    Scart to the right = Genuine

    Also you can go here to see some pics

    Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY.
    (The Starview does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM
    )

    so does this mean mines a clone if so do clones always have to be updated with the lastest codes?

    and genuines dont have to be updated as long as they have latest firmware?

    Both clones nad genuines auto roll codes when the correct firmware is installed

    Have you a clone or genuine box? count the vents and look at the pics

    You need 2.57eE Fixed as per Celt's post.

    Hi. I've been following your advice on this thread but am a little stuck.

    I can confirm I have a genuine starview box.
    I have the cable as recommended and also purchased the USB convertor for it.
    I started as suggested with the connecting cables first with box off etc and then start on standby.

    I have downloaded the files as advised. but on uploading them I encountered two problems. In the GTRom Loader box I got a serial connect error . I changed the COM setting from Com1 to Com 3. That seem to work as when I hit down load it began but the 2nd error I got was flash card reader error.

    Can you assist? any advice or steer would be great. I'm by no means any kind of techie but hope I can follow.
