Hi I'm thinking of buying one of these as a Christmas present to myself, but after reading some posts is there any point, will they be useless soon?
If I get one could any kind person, give me an idiots guide on setting it up, from opening the box to watching all the channels and updating the thing. I had a starview PVR but it died a few months ago. And my brother set it up for me, but like a typical bloke didn’t explain to me what he was doing. I can’t ask him as he’s away at the moment in Afghanistan, thanks in advance, Jo

cable boxes will become useless in leeds and most parts of irl due to nagra 3.the combo is sat as well but you will need a dish and ethernet.

Thanks cactikid. At present, I'm on cable, virgin media. I have an ethernet connection. Are you saying it would be better to get a sat dish? If so, what use would the ethernet have and would i have to subscribe to sky?

yes it would be good to get a satellite dish.a good size dish would
be around a 80cm or bigger for Ireland. i know in England they use a
60cm Dish, But i think a bigger dish is alway the best and a good
LNBs with a sensitive range of 0.1db is the new std.Technomate do a very good range of these super LNBs > Gold plated for Resistant to bad weather.get a Solid dish not the ones with the holes in them as when it rain the picture break up more quickly with the hole in them.
The starview cambo Hd ,it does not have a internal hard drive only
have two usb ports to support PVR. it looked a good unit has a lot of stuff on it to.

nairn1 it sounds like you have the wrong firmware for your box make sure you put on the correct one. The ones with the LAN port take a different one to the non-Lan boxes.

no you wont get sky on these boxs and also the cable side is becoming redundant on them also, you will need to set the sat side up to CS to get any premium chans, there are a load posts on here about Card share and hints and tips,

But as a bog standard box, its FTA sat and the cable side is dying off
