Are you following the guide. What firmware are you using and what cable/cables?

What does it say on the front of the box, i.e. Starview, The Box or The Box Super?

You picked the hardest one and that guide I gave you will only take you part of the way. Look in Eamos at the end of most post. In the The Box PVR folder you will find all you need, i.e. firmware, loader and guides.

OK if it says failed , you more than likely have an RS 232 cable and you need a NULL MODEM CABLE .

TV cable goes in to Cable 1 Input (top right of the four sockets that are together) , You need to connect the PVR to TV with a scart lead.

When you update the version on your b0x , goto Menu/System Setup/Press ok when Parental Control is highlighted, then i (info) then 2007, you may need to do this a couple of times to get your remote button speed presses correct, you should then be in the 'Cas System' menu, make sure the bottom item 'Auto Update' is set to on.
Goto a scrambled channel and wait for it to update can take a minute or so.

Presuming you have a live feed, have you got the cable in the cable in sockets. You need to loop the tuners also, the guides are there to help you.
