Sorry if this has been done to death, but I HAVE read all the other threads, honest!

Okay, I have this box that says "version 1.134, 18 Jan 2007", and from what I read I want to flash "thebox_UK_H20070709_451eE_api.bin" over it. (I can't get into the extra menu for unlocking chs.)

I have a USB-serial adapter plus drivers, which seems to work fine. This is plugged into the DB9 at the back of the pvr.

I'm running "v4.03_051005.exe" to try to flash the rom.

    Two methods I have tried:
    1. Boot box, OK,Exit,OK,Exit,OK,Exit (it goes into "B-31" mode or whatever), then flash it.
    2. Put box into standby, then try to flash.
    Neither work.

Serial speed is correct (115200), everything else seems fine, it just doesn't speak to the box.

Can somebody guide me through the last few steps to get this working? Already spent too many hours getting cables/frustrated and breaking things with fist. :)

    Cheers,
    Ferg.

Ok , have you got the standard "THE B0X" or have you got "THE B0X PVR" ?

Both of these use different firmware and GT ROM Loaders

    Cheers Celtic,

I have the PVR version I guess (dual-tuner with HDD possible). Am I to assume The Box normal doesn't take an HDD?

    Cheers mate,

Got all the bits and tried according to the doc, but still the same "Update failed" message.

I can't use the USB update mode - because there's no HDD in the box.

Also, you can't select a USB port using these update tools.
Why does it have to be so difficult?

What's my next step - could add an HDD and try that way. Any other alternatives to get past this update failed message?

Yeah, got the one from my old Eurovox.
I'll stick an HDD in it and try the USB way. Just trying not to mark it in any way so I can send it back if it sucks!

Try it from a standalone pc with a 9 way serial port and just the null modem cable

Hmm... finally managed to do it.
Chalk up another one for the "obviously had the wrong cable" list. Bloody 'converter'.

    Cheers for your help Celt.

    'Mon the hoops!
