    Hello,
Just wondering if someone can send me a link to a tutorial for hard drive installations. Im definitaly new to this and i want to do it the right way. Is there alot of steps involved. Im getting a western diggital wd4000kd sata1 HD to add to my gateway 842gc http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5766/5766nv.shtml. It already has a western digital sata 200gb hard drive.

Easy as unplugging and plugging back in. You have the sata cable which plugs in and the power lead goes only one way. Plus possible plastic clips or screws holding it in the case. If in Pa give me a PM. Can do it for you....:>

actually im in pittsburgh, PA haha.

So the sata cable goes on the motherboard? and if so, should i plug it right next to where my current hard drive is plugged into on the motherboard? on the setup i have now, my current HD is connected on one of four slots on the motherboard.

Ok now what is the power lead? where does that plug into?

and what do i do after i plug these in? do i have to go into the bios or something?

im using this drive for storage, to put movies and pictures etc. on. Does thi make a difference as to how i should hook it up????

Well just follow the existing drive. Plug it in exactly and you will be alright. I dont think a 4 hour ride for you is worth installing it LOL!. But you should go into the bios to make sure the bios recognizes the drive. Other that you should be good. Just remeber the power supply connector has a l shape to it and only plugs in one way. Have fun!

No their will be a lead coming out of the psu that you would plug into the hard drive. If you dont have a extra lead than adapters will be need.

Yup small and black. Plus if you look inside the black one it has a l shape. It only goes one way into the drive. The l shape basically key's it so you can plug it in backwards. The white one is for like the old ide drives and roms and such....
