Still having play-back problems with copied dvd's

I am having problems with a scrambled picture, freezes, loud popping sounds, etc with newly burned copies of dvd's. I am using "AnyDVD, DVD Shrink and Nero 6 to copy and burn. I am coping to an external hard disk and using Nero 6 to burn the copy. Orginally, I was burning at 16X. Using advice I received on this forum, I switched from Memorex disks to Verbatim and Fuji disks and have been burning at 8X, 4X and even 2X, but the problem still persists.
Orginally, I used only DVD Shrink and didn't seem to have a problem, or at least, it wasn't much of one. I downloaded DVD Free and that is when I first noticed it to be a problem. I purchased AnyDVD, thinking that it would do a better job of removing the "bugs", but that hasn't seemed to help.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Appreciate your comments.
    Chuck

Are these issues showing up while you view them on your pc or are they being played on a stand alone player? They usually are on stand alones,so if it is,try viewing those backups on your pc with the dvd-rw drive that burned them.

What format of media are you using, plus or dash?

Do you have dvd decrypter ? It's free and it has a burn engine to test if the burning software is the problem.

You are heading in the right direction with the quality media and slower burn speed changes. There can be many more possibilities Like:

Multi-tasking-turn everything off that is not needed.

Fragmented hard drive-I don't know anything about external hds.Defrag regularly.

Paper-stick on labels-just threw that in there because they can cause issues like this.

    Spyware,virus's.

    Burning software issue

    Aspi layer

    Even heat issues.
