jeanice, would love to help you, need to know some things first..

1. what operating system are you using on your PC ? ie: Windows 98, etc..
2. what burning software are you using? ie: Nero, CDRWin, Easy CD Creator, etc..
3. what type of video are you using for your source? ie: mpeg, avi, etc..
4. did you re-encode the video using TMPGenc or another MPEG encoder?

if you have a divx .avi file as your source, I would recommend you follow the guide found here: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/divx_with_subtitles_to_vcd.cfm

if you have any other file format just let me know what it is and I will help you create a VCD compliant mpeg video.. this is necessary before you can even consider creating a VCD.

After you get a VCD compliant mpeg, you can use Nero to burn the VCD following this guide: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/nero_videocd_guide.cfm

basically, once you have the video(s) in VCD compliant mpeg format, you only need to open Nero and create a new VCD compilation, and drag & drop your video(s) into the compilation.. if you need help with creating a VCD compilation, check out the guide here: http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/nero_videocd_guide.cfm

the only time I have heard of this happening before it was happening in Windows 98, but for some reason not on standalone DVD player, only on the PC.. is this the same thing you are experiencing, or does your VCD also not play on a standalone player?

 

Hi there guys. Sorry to bust up your chat, but perhaps it is a simple problem (like me ).

When making you VCDs, are you running them through TMPGenc Merge and Cut to VCD Comliant files?

Also in Nero, don't listen o what people say about the wizard, if you are unfamiliar, use it. Launch wizard, then select CD, then compile CD, then other formats, then VideoCD, then simply drag and drop one file (probably will only be one file) from the right to left.

Sounds like you are in the states, so can't advise you on where to buy, because I am in little old England! If you are using TMPGEnc and have an MPEG, select file, go down to MPEG Tools, select Merge and Cut , then add the file you want to run. Click to edit it, then run it.

you could also open your MPEG in Nero using the VCD wizard to produce your VCD that way. Just because the VCD does not work in the standalone, does not mean that the media is faulty, although that could be a reason. PCs tend to be a bit more forgiving to the user than standalones. Also try burning slowly.

Loaded: she has another thread going, just realized that this was the same person asking the same questions practically in different forums.. anyhow, it seems that her DVD player is not compatible with CD-R media, most likely she will need to use CD-RW media with her Panasonic CV-40.. here is the thread I speak of:

yeah, take your VCD to best buy and tell the sales rep that you wanted to test a DVD player for VCD compatiblity, and see if it works there.. I suggest trying it on a Samsung, because I have one and just bought one for my mother, and it works flawlessly. anyhow, that will rule out the VCD itself as being the problem, which I already have a feeling is the case.. seems more and more likely it is your DVD player, especially after learning it is a Panasonic!

 

Good diagnosis VCD, I thought she just had an MPEG file, not necessarily a VCD compatible one.
