Stop the piracy or suffer the consequences

I'm sure about half of what people discuss on this board about "backing up" games is REALLY about backing up games they have actually paid for. Backing up is LEGAL, but for the other half of you, you should be beaten dead in the street. If the developers don't get paid, all us gamers lose in the end. I know most of us already know this but with more and more new threads about "backing up", I felt the subject needed to be brought up again.

 

Thanks for pointing out the blatantly obvious. I don't know where you get your numbers from, but I suspect you pulled them out of someplace. I doubt 50% of the people on this forum are pirates. I'll pull some numbers out of my.... hat! 95% of us want to backup our games, store MP3s, digital photos, and movies. Some of us were also looking for a low-cost Linux computer. Others are probably just enjoying exploiting M$'s security shortcomings, rather than constantly being a victim of them (i.e. Windows flaws).

Those are harsh accusations. I'm sure there are some pirates in this forum, but I can't (and won't) believe that it is anywhere near 50%.

Furthermore, I also think most posters to this forum are mature enough to figure out that if gaming companies fail to make money on the Xbox platform, they'll abandon it.

Unless you are addicted to simply "collecting" games, there are precious few games worth owning, let alone breaking the law to copy. Many of us have already figured out that the best way to encourage companies to make good games is to buy the good games, whilst ignoring the "trash".

No, the subject didn't need to be brought up again. The vast majority of us know it's morally reprehensible to "rip off" copyrighted materials without paying for their use, if required. We also realize that it is a crime, as well.

Furthermore, do you really think a tiny post like this will change the hearts and minds of the pirates? I think you've also greatly exaggerated your power of persuasion, especially when most pirates will probably read the title and laugh to themselves. You are preaching to the choir.

Remember, 73.9% of all statistics are just made-up numbers, including this one.

good god, I wasn't trying to persuade anyone. if you honestly think that 5% of people on this forum are just "backing" up their paid for games, then U R CRAZY. I ran a videogame store for 8 years and can tell you from personal experience that MANY MANY MANY people are pirating games. As far as prostitution goes, who am I to stop the oldest profession kwown to man? Also, ask the moderator how many threads he's killed that involved piracy, yeah. Ask yourself why the sale of used videogames have been illegal in Japan for so long.

How did you come to that conclusion, maybe we wanted to rent the game before we bought it, thats what many people do before they spend their hard earned $50 dollars,(wich in my opinion its way too much for a video game). how you know that those people that rented from your wack ass store were pirating your games? did the burner leave a trace mark on your games or something? get out of here with your non-sense, we dont need your stupid thread to remind us of piracy, yes its true, piracy does exist, but when you say HALF of the people here are doing it, you dont expect us to stay quiet dont you, specially if im not the one that does it. get a wife, i mean a life, and stop doing threads like this, its just going to make you look bad, and everyone here is going to disklike you, so far 3 people, including me, dont like you for saying false accusations, you are just mad your store went downhill, so now all of a sudden you wanna blame piracy. lol, what a fool

 

majindan every body has a right for free speech but unfortunately you are not going to win a question like this or influence people with out proven statistical data.

I also cant believe that the 50% ratio is that high.Iwould of thought the figure was about 3 to 5%.Maybe you could provide us with some figures and then you could re-post and we have a discussion on it with a few more forum members

ok as this forum isnt about what we should or shouldnt do, I think youre missing the point!
this isnt a forum about politics, and whats ethically right or wrong, its about helping other people that want to do stuff, that can be done with their xbox.
in case you didnt realise it, xbox isnt JUST a games machine that plays xbox games, theres a hell of a lot that can be done with it, and yea its real fun too.

majindan, lets ponder shall we: lets say a guy (lets call him Bob) mods his box and dicides to pirate games that he rents. Now Bob goes and rents about 20 games and copies them to his xbox. Now since you complain about how the developers do not get paid. K, out of those 20 games that Mr. Bob pirated, how many do you think he would have acutally bought??? I can bet money that he would not have bought all 20 of them.

wow 50% percent??? nope i do not see that as a plausable number and we do not need another thread to remind us about piracy if you do not read forum rules then your a dumbass for not doing it. most of the people here on the forum do indeed backup their legally owned games while there will always be that small number of users that do pirate material i highly doubt it's 50% of the usere here on afterdawn.

 

Look, I'm no fool. I started coming to this forum for the knowledge base and mature (for the most part)people that post. I just thought it would be a nice reminder for the newbies that don't understand why piracy is bad. Again, if anyone got offended I apologize. It is what it is. For those that got all their panties in a wad, get over it. well everyone by now should know that priacy is bad since all of the riaa crap so we do not need to remind anyone about this but we do need to remind the newbs to read the rules and use the search function which is what gets me pissed lol.

 

I think it's your holier-than-thou attitude that annoys most of us. I see very, very few posts that I regard as "probably pirates". Maybe you're just so much smarter than the rest of us? There is very little passivity to the phrase "Half of you are criminals".

You seem to have mistaken this for a forum full of pre-pubescent youths, hell-bent on rebeling against the "establishment". When you come in here spouting morality lessons that most of us learned by the third grade, don't expect to be held in high esteem.

If you've been a gamer for 24 years, you must be old enough to realize that if you go around accusing people of criminal acts with no basis, people may become offended. When people do become offended by your insensitivity, it's not always due to P.M.S. (which, furthermore, trivializes a real problem many "pie holes" suffer from).

But, I agree with the fact that it really does no good to make a public case out of it. Oh and by the way Sherri...the reason you see very few posts that mention piracy is because Piracy Is Not Allowed on the forums. How much piracy do you think you would see if it was allowed. By the way Sherri, I don't think this is a place to post your resume and clearly shows your lack of self esteem. No one really cares what your credentials are. Keep it to the questions and answers.
