    Book Type: DVD-R

Are you using -R or +R blanks? Also have you tried using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to accomplish your goals?

CMC is considered very low quality media, quality media is a must use verbatim, taiyo yuden, sony

If I read your log right, It looks to me that you are using NERO 7. Have you had success with earlier versions of NERO or any other burning programs? Just from what I've read, this new release of NERO (7) has some bugs. Especially the Beta releases.

Other than that, follow the previous advice.

Also, Do not multi-task while making your back-up.

As for media, I don't think that Ritek has fallen out of favor yet as far as quality media goes.
