ok, im fairly new to this but i have been successful a few times already, and this is my first roadblock i havnt been able to find help with faqs and guides. the problem is in tmpgenc it seems to think that the video file is 330minutes long, when its only something like 100, so there is no way i can make a file small enough for a dvd. the resolution of the file is 640x272 and it is 25fps, which i want to convert to a ntsc compatable 4:3 aspect ratio and jam it onto a dvd. I also tried converting it to a regular avi with virtualdub, however that filled my hard drive real quick. details of the file are, xvid avi, 640x272 px, 113minutes long. i have a fair amount of software available. any help would be appreciated.
Try extracting the audio (load the movie with VirtualDubMod and do Stream__Stream List___Save WAV [Or use VirtualDub, set Audio__Full Processing Mode, and don't choose any compression. Save the WAV (if you had left Audio__Direct Stream Copy, you'd have generated a 'fake' WAV: a compressed audio stream named 'WAV', it will save a big (aprox. 1150 MB) WAV file]. After that, in VirtualDubMod Stream__Stream List___Disable the audio stream, in VirtulDub set Audio__No Audio, Video__Direct stream Copy and finally, in both programs, do File___Save (F7). Now you should have the WAV in a file, and a 'mute AVI' which is the video, in another (slightly smaller then the original one). After that check that the WAV has the correct length (113') and that TMPGenc sees the correct length (113', again) in the AVI. Usually it's an audio problem, which causes TMPGenc go crazy. Since you're planning to make a DVD, you'll need the AVI only for the video (M2V) so no problem... Create the M2V with TMPGenc and author the DVD with the M2V and the WAV you extracted wit VirtualDub.
Even easier is to load the avi into tmpgenc. Click Settings, Advanced tab. Double click on "Source range". Have it span from 0 to 113 minutes. Encode. You may, or may not, get an audio file that's in sync (about a 50/50 shot). If not, try adalco12's method.
awesome guys, i'll try this. i managed to get it to work with dvdtoavi, however the quality is shit, mainly the sound. so im going to try tmpgenc again.
If you're having trouble with the aspect ratio, on the Advanced tab of tmpgenc, set it to 1:1 VGA, keep aspect ratio "2". Make sure on the Video tab, it's set to 4:3 NTSC 720x480.
