a friend asked me to take a look at his PC today because of a wierd problem with his internet, ive been trying for ages now and still havent had any luck in resolving the problem... i cant even figure out whats causing it. basically the internet works as normal for about the first 2 - 3 links that you follow but then all of a sudden it just goes dead... no response at all you cant even go back a page, nothing will load until you open up another browser window vut sure enough after 2 - 3 links everything stops in the new browser aswell. at first i thought maybe its IE so i downloaded FireFox but it still had the same problem, then i reset all the internet options to default... but to no avail, he said it had worked fine the day before so i did a system restore to the start of the week... but it was still exactly the same, ive ran spyware checks and virus checks but everything comes back clean, ive tried using different network ports and ive tried changing from the filtered to the unfiltered proxy but no matter what i do it all stays the same. Has anybody else ever had this problem..if so how do you fix it, i could probably just reinstall windows on the PC and it would work again but i dont want to have to do that as it will cause down time that we could do without. so any suggestions anyone?
Since more than one browser share the same issue, there is also only one other thing they share. The NIC, and all it's resources (PCI slot, or onboard). Try removing the NIC from the system...restart, and let Windows reinstall the driver. If you have eliminated the PC as the issue, give their ISP a call. Keep in mind, that with System Restore active, problems can be left behind in restore points, making you believe that SR didn't solve the issue. The only way to protect against virus damage, is to delete SR points before doing a scan. Sometimes SR seems to be the lucky side of the coin, but it's truly unreliable as a tool to recover a system.
