    Hey guys,
Up till this weekend i had no issues backing up movies. it started with "be cool" and then "Star wars trilogy" and "the Indiana Jones Trilogy" started "pausing" the video pausses, i can still hear the audio fine. it pause for about 1-3 secs. IT seems to do it more on my GE DVD player downstairs. My Pioneer upstirs seems to be ok. Now, the strange thing is (and maybe this will make some of you go OK!!) like if im watching "star wars" i remember the part in the beginning where darth vader was talking to the Princess paused as he said "take her away" after it paused, i rewinded it and played that part again. it played fine, no skipping during that part. then about 20 secs later it sill skip again. usually about every 30 secs or so. what could this be? i have a new sony DRU7(cant remember all the numbers) it is a 16x dual layer drive. I am using sony 8x_r (the +r didnt work well with my GE dvd player. I usually burn at 6x or 4x. Now since other movies play fine is this a media issue? computer issue? DVD player? I am using xp SP2, i try anf defrag my PC after i delete a few movies after they are burned so i dont think that is it.

Any ideas? I was jsut about to buy some TY on supermedia.com but i know i read these sonys i have (i cnat remember the code but it WAS listed here and people did say it was good "made in Taiwan though") so it is good medi and i dint want to waste money if it is something else.

also..i usually select "smooth" when encoding. i ahve tried all of them and the same thing happens..

    hlep me:)

    hi

i would plum for the discs! i think if they were made in japan there good? but dont quote me?

also if doing heavy compression set the output size back abit so as not to burn to the end of the disc! and amke sure on heavy compression you use deep analysis in dvd shrink as it will have a hard job on heavy compression getting the end size correctly!

    hi,
yeah i use DVD Skrink and burn with DVD dycrypter. all the dvds are set to 4360. and what do you mean by "heavy compression"? i leave it in auto, which for star wars was 57% i think. i have been deleting audios like "spanish, french etc"

it is jsut strange it didnt do it to all my movies and the "skip" is not in the same place if i rewind the dvd.

    hi

    57% is heavy

try changing the ratio to none (look at size)! 6/7/8 is a big file to compress! heavy

4/5 is is kool and light

do you use deep analysis? at it does a second take on size etc

    hi

ratio is like a before and after to see the size difference, open dvd shrink and topish right pain there is a drop down box look there! and watch the slider at the top turn red! (first loading an uncompressed dvd)

also did you know that dvd shrink can shrink menus separatly to main movie folder

    hi

yes you can have no compression on main film and shrink menus folder and extras folder with different ratios!

but as mort81 says! have a look at guides

also cut off CHOP start and end credits to gain more space! (only in reauthor main movie only mode) as you may know you dont have to keep all the extras and menus! you can use just main movie!
