Man I'm losing my mind with my ipod the last couple of days. For some reason it just won't charge! The weird thing is that even when it was detected from my pc and the charging icon was shown it still wouldn't charge up! I put it on a main charger and still after a few hours not only the battery wasn't charge, it drained even more (while the ipod was switched off). Now some may say that the battery is probably dead but that's not the case. I even changed the battery with a new one and still it just won't charge. Now let's think logically for a second. Could the usb connection on the ipod be broken? Probably not since the pc could detect it when it had power. Could the battery be dead? No we already said that. Not enough power to charge? No I have a main charger and it didn't do any better. Problem with the connection between the battery and the ipod? Nah, if that was the case then probably the ipod wouldn't power up in the first place. What's my conclusion? For some reason the battery doesn't receive any power no matter where I plug it in. If for example I put a fully charged one on it, it will work just fine. The usb connection works, itunes detect it, windows detect it but the battery just doesn't. Does anyone has any ideas? Even if I change a part of the ipod what would that be? The motherboard? Maybe got unlucky with the second battery I bought? Any suggestions? *Sending it to Apple is not an option. I could change everything on the damn thing and still pay less than sending them my ipod.
This is a long shot. Try borrowing someone elses cable. Just because most of the wires work fine doesn't mean for sure they all work. It is either that, the battery or the connection. Was the new battery installed correctly?
Yeah the battery was connected just fine. Since the ipod gets detected from my pc doesnt that mean that the cables are fine? I will probably try with another battery but I don't think that will solve the problem. Maybe I should change the mainboard.
The cable has 4 wires. I am willing to bet the data transfer is a different wire that goes to a different place than the power which should go to the battery, right? I would visually inspect the end that goes into the computer make sure the connections at least look good. What do you mean, change the main board?
They sell mainboards/motherboards for ipod in ebay. As for what you said for the cable maybe the problem is in the port of the ipod instead of the cable. That would explain why it doesn't charge when the pc detects it just fine. I already bought a different cable but with the same results.
You can swap out main boards with out soldering? How much do the cost (ball park). How about screens? I doubt that it is on the computer end. I have never heard of one of them wearing out. I believe Apple has designed the ipods to fail for the last few years. They have made the wear parts like connections thinner so they wear out. Ear phone jacks never used to wear out now they do. I NEVER heard of any jack ever wearing out. I bet it cost them more to make the thinner part because many more fail to work vs the savings of a milagram of copper they save by shaving it down. Thank god for ebay.
