I have a XFX 6800 GT for starters. Recently I have had trouble playing games. Generally pretty soon after getting into a game the screen will mess up and just have lines going across it, which requires me to restart my computer to fix. It generally does it pretty shortly after getting into a game and generally if it doesnt happen soon after starting it wont. So far it has done it with Madden 07, BF 2142, and MTW2. On BF it half way corrected itself once and unfroze allowing me to play but the video was still pretty screwy. everything was black except people and buildings and there were random lines doing around. I played all of these games with out incident many times before any of this happened. Any ideas?
There's only two things that I can think of to try offhand and that's to a) make sure your drivers are up to date and b)make sure your game's are all fully patched although the latter shouldn't be the issue considering it happens on multiple games. You may also check your video settings and make sure you're running the game on the same settings (i.e. 800x600 60Hz) I think it's Hz but you'll see what I mean.
Download the latest nvidia drivers Version: 93.71 from the following link if you don't already have them. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html That link is for XP so if you are running another operating system just get those instead. Then go to add remove programs, remove the nvidia display drivers (only video) not chipset if you have a nforce chipset motherboard. Reboot PC then load the downloaded drivers, reboot again and then try the games. If you have updated the drivers previoulsy without uninstalling the previous versions this could cause issues. Also if you are overclocking the GPU or the CPU then put them back to default and try again.
yea i uninstalled my drivers and got the newest ones just to make sure. I really havnt played games much laitly but I was just doin a game of madden. Everything was going ok and then in the 4th quarter bam it happens. This is the first time it has done it so far into a game. Could it maybe be overheating?
its really starting to do it with increased frequency. The only thing I can possibly think of is it is overheating. I just dont get why it will sometimes run a game for 8 hours at a time and then others screw up after 5-20 minutes.. any other ideas before i go crazy?
