Hi guys..I got the strangest windows problem ive not encountered before and need help with.

I have installed windows on my computer but I get this problem where when I click my start bar the menu just flickers on and off and if I double click any icons on my desk top they open the icons properties window.. I cant access anything..I have to CTRL Alt and Delete and use the shutdown menu on there to switch the computer off.. Has anyone got any ideas what the problem could be?

I seem to get this problem when my automatic updates are on and update my windows to the latest version..if I format my computer again and switch off automatic updates its fine but I cant stick with an old version of windows.. There must be a solution.

    Thanks,
    Mike

To stop the start menu cancelling, try pressing the escape, windows and alt keys on your keyboard. To stop the menu icons coming up, right-click on a blank part of your desktop, then left-click off (don't select an option). This usually fixes said issues for me, I only ever encountered this with XP, it seems to get a bit confused with input sometimes.

...Or just dissable automatic updates. Many of these updates are super-buggy and virtualy untested. Often updates are de-released weeks or even months after release because they are so problematic that a replacement update had to be writen from scratch. I usualy wait for an update to be on the list for at least two weeks before I install it (1 week for beta products).
