What puts more stress on a DVD burner, burning a movie to a disc or Backing up a movie to my hard drive?

I would guess that the burning process is somewhat harder on the drive but probably not enough to worry about. I have a Pioneer 106D that has been doing the ripping and burning for 2 years now and still keeps going strong. I want the drive to sort of die so I can upgrade it but it must be part cat with 9 lives. With the low cost of burners today and ease of install, why worry.
