Stripping Windows XP To Total Base

    hi all i am starting a project where i use the base of windows xp and , i want to inject my drivers to the install disc.

    when i say strip the os to the base i mean remove all the program, all the bulit in drivers that are suppled inc some of the services and make a total custom os just the base of xp. ie here the list of what i would need to do.

    boot screen
    login
    remove all programs
    remove all the driver
    windows activation
    install info (untended windows setup)
    network services stuff
    disbable some background service that not needed
    backgrounds
    theames
    and all the other stuff that you can thing of.

    all contrabutions are welcome and all other tips hacks and tricks.

    isn't xp lite the same as what you are trying to do?

    do you know if there is a way to inject my own drivers into the windows xp setup?

    i think you can do it when making the xp lite disk. do a search on the site especially in this forum for that info as that is how i know about it.

    now for the real answer...

    you need a program called "Nlite" with that you will be able to "strip" down any copy of XP and add whatever you want to it..

    For Vista use Vlite.

    thanks for that i have used it to strip the contents of the disc but i am having a problems with the ativation of it now. please can you help me with this.

    so install on vmware to test it and then i get the activation screen and the problem is be not a real copy of windows i that i cant activate it. so if you know how to fix help please.

    i'm guessing the copy your using is a retail copy..and those only have a limited number of installs from the retail serial number.

    Try to get ahold of a copy of Windows XP Pro Corporate Edition.

    That kind of copy will let you install windows as many times as you want..and normally there is no serial needed.

    i am using XP Pro Corporate Edition for this project an normally like you said theres no activation. do you i think i could backup an activation file from installed version of xp and then replace the one on the new install.

    would that work?????

    it could work, but that might be kinda tricky getting it to work...it might be easier to just find a new copy on the net someplace and download a new copy.
