Hi, I have on my hard disc some DVDs with subtitles I would like to change with srt files for the same movies, however in an other language. I have been told, one can do that with AviSynth, however, that seems to be too complicated for me. Aren't there some not too complicated programs with which I could do that? or, if not, is there a not too complicated way to do that? Also, assuming there is such another program or way, is there also a program similar to Subtitles Workshop for synchronising the new subtitles with the DVD (vob) files ? Thanks in advance. stibi
In Subtitle Workshop, if you take a VOB file from a DVD and put .mpg on the end, it can be loaded along with the .srt file to check timing.. Remember to change the name back to .vob when satisfied. The existing DVD files would have to be demuxed (giving an .m2v and .ac3 files) by the likes of 'Rejig'. Those files (along with the .srt file) can be remuxed to a new DVD using 'DVDAuthor GUI'. These programs are commonly available for download. The steps are not complicated and take little time, it's not like converting from one format to another.
Hi attar and many thanks for trying to help me to solve the problem. Unfortunately, Subtitle Workshop doesn't accept the vob files, even if I change the extention VOB to mpg. I opened a new folder, put into one of the VOB files and changed it's extention to mpg. Then I changed the name of the srt file to the same name as the said mpg file (except for the extention)and it to the said folder. Next I opened Subtitles Workshop and loaded the said srt file. As you undoubtedly know, usually as one load's into Subtitles Workshop the srt file Subtitles Workshop automatically opens the corresponding avi file. However, this time it didn't happen. So, I went to Subtitles Workshop's Movie menu and selected "Open". At this stage there appeared the message that the said mpg file is not a valid video file. Naturally, without checking the timing of the subtitles, I see no point in taking the further steps suggested by you. Hopping you find some other solution, I thank you in advance stibi
I have half a dozen ripped DVD's on my hard drive at the moment and I can take vob files at random and they open ok. It's a puzzler, because vob are mpeg files??
Hi attar, You are absolutely right! Upon receipt of yor last message it occurred to me, that, perhaps, there is some bug in the DVD Subtitle Workshop refused to accept. So I tried some VOB files of other DVDs I have on my hard disk and, indeed, Subtitle Workshop "accepted" each of them. Pity I didn't do it earlier. Hence, I don't need to substitute the subtitles of that DVD; however I am keeping your message about how to do it for the future. Thanks a lot stibi
