Hi, I am totally new to burning downloaded avi files. Recently I got a stand alone dvd player which plays avi, xvid, divx etc, formats. My problem is adding subtitles and burning a downloaded xvid, divx file without converting it to a dvd format. Can anyone help me as to which program can I use? I used Nero 7 Premium but each time I try to add the avi file to be burned it shows an error message that it does not support that format. Does anyone know if ashampoo burning studio support subtitle option? I realize the questions above may sound very stupid...as a matter of fact I know they do, but I'm at my wits end and like I said I'm REALLY new at this. I will be very grateful for any help at all.

I've not gotten one of these "newfangled" dvd players that support avi files of various types, so this answer may not be completely correct but it should at least help you get started in the right direction. If you're burning these to disc and just playing them off the disc then all you should need to do is burn in a data format, much as if you were playing mp3's off a disc w/a supporting dvd player. From there what you would need to find out is if your dvd player supports subtitle files, and just burn a data disc with the subtitle file included in the supported format. If it doesn't then you would likely have to hardcode the subs to the avi. Since I've never hardcoded subs, I wouldn't know how to do that, but there are a number of threads here about hardcoding subs so it shouldn't be too hard to find out how. Good luck.
