    Hi all,

I recently followed the afterdawn guide to converting an Xvid Avi to DVD with Avi2DVD. It worked fine - except the subtitles on the finished DVD were all messed up and out of sync.

The avi file is in 2 parts as are the .srt files. I was just wondering if there are any known problems when the files are joined?

You might want to try SubtitleWorkshop to join the srt's and then join the avi's. Don't get rid of the avi's before joining the subs as you need to first one to figure out the delay.

Well the subtitles are definately messed up when putting 2 subtitle files through Avi2DVD. I grabbed Subtitle workshop and joined them through that. I started using TMPEnc Plus to encode the video but its gonna take about 18hrs!! Why does this take 18hrs yet Avi2DVD takes around 4?

    Oh well....

I only use 2 programs when converting 2 avs and subs to dvd. Heres what i do and it works every time!
Before using these programs i tried all the other ones out there: avi2dvd, DVDSanta and the rest but i had
sync probs with audio and subs but no more probs now!

Install a program called VobSub as this will force the subtitles.
Install Canopus Procoder 2.This prog supports all files!!!!!
Make sure when you unpack the download that you have the 2 avis and the subs files in exactly the same folder.
There is no need to join these either as Canopus will do this for you.
Start Canopus Procoder and put a tick in the stitch box as this will join the files together,
then choose a target which will be dvd PAL or whatever you wish to do then click convert and choose a path for output
if you don't choose a path then the default path is my documents. Then hit convert! watch the first 5 mins you should
see the subtitles being tranconded with the movie, if so then unclick preview as this will slow down convertion.
Encoding takes between 4 to 8 hrs but its so worth it! The finished result is a high quality dvd with subs!!!
    Its as Simple as that.

When Makeing a DVD with Subtitles you should Not Hard Code the Subtitles with the Video...The Subtitles should be Like on a Regular DVD were you can select them and Turn them on and Off...
To do this you need a DVD Authoring program that supports Subtitles Like "DVDLab Pro" or "Adobe EncoreDVD" or "Sonic ReelDVD" or any other Professinal Quality DVD authoring Program that has Subtitle support.......

    Cheers

I start subtitleworkshop and delay the second sub(srt).
Delaying is necessary because the first sub is ending before the first movie is finnished.

    So:
    delay srt2= end time movie1 - end time sub1.
