Probably dont really need to start a new thread for this. But the other threads that looked like they would of had what I am looking for didnt really answer my question. So here it is:

I read that DVD players read .sub files for subtitles. When I look at the content of a DVD, I dont see a extention for that(Anime/Japanese movies). I know the subtitles are not hardcoded onto the movie either. So what format enables the viewer to turn on/off the subtitles? Also, if I burn the movie and just put the .sub or .srt whichever I may need on the DVD, will that allow me to turn them on or off?

If you google keywords like: subtitles dvd faq vob

you'll get some hits explaining(probably in more detail than you want to know unless you're coding a subtitle utility/editing program) how they are encoded into the DVD files etc..
