Hi. I'm attempting to subtitle a dvd, and I've gotten very nearly to the end but can't solve this problem:

    I already:
    1) converted the .srt to a .sup
    2) took the vobs apart with VOBEdit
    3) used IFOEdit to author a dvd with the subtitles in it.

So far so good, except when I was watching it I noticed that some subtitles which were supposed to stay on the screen for a long time vanished really quickly. I noted down the times when this was happening, and the problem seems to be that a subtitle disappears from the screen whenever a new cell starts. There are 119 cells in the thing I'm watching, and so this is a significant annoyance. How can I fix it? (I'm fairly new to this and don't understand what the point of "cells" is anyway. The thing is divided into 12 chapters already, so if there's a way to eliminate the division by "cell" that would be awesome.)

Is this a 'movie only'. Do you have a set of VOBs? Was the timing correct with the original srt file?

The timing was correct with the original .srt file. (I checked it by converting the VOBs into a .mp4 and playing it with VLC player on my comp.)

    The VIDEO_TS folder has:
    VIDEO_TS ifo & bup
    VTS_01_0 ifo & bup
    VTS_02_0 ifo & bup
    VTS_01_1 vob
    VTS_01_2 vob
    VTS_02_1 vob
    VTS_02_2 vob
    VTS_02_3 vob

Also, I just noticed that when I try to skip chapters, each "chapter" is like 40 seconds long. Apparently it's treating all the cells as separate chapters.

So. Idea: when I check the Cell Times file it consists a whole shitton of numbers. What if I open up the IFOs with IfoEdit and see which of those numbers correspond to chapter divisions I actually want, then delete the rest from the Cell Times file and re-author the DVD?
