Hey, I'min the REALLY beginning stages of researching opening up a subtitling business. Mostly to translate between Spanish and English. Any advice as to what programs to use for something like this? Then again, do these types of companies physically put the subtitles in? or just translate and let the editor worry about it or something. thanks in advance!
hey bufalo i cant tell you about the whole business part of your subtitling business but the answer to what programs all depends on what you have to start with. ie the movie has subs in one language all you have to do is demux the sub from the video i use virtualdubMod: then go in and translate (itll be a huge text file with lots of numbers -the timescodes- and the text so all youd have to do is replace the text), after your done mux the other subtitles into the video (alsi can be done with virtualdubMod) thats an idea situation though, subs can be permenently added to video and are no longer text but part of the video stream itself ...i dont think that can be removed ...but you can use some programs that use OCR(optical character recognition) and get all the text ne way. then youd have to use a differnt program when youd creat the sub text file ...that program would take care of the text positon time code font and size if you have no subs at all you still use a program like the one above (whatever that may be) just having to type all the text urself from scratch since i only demux and mux subtitles i dunno what programs to tell you to use so here is a link to a bunch with descriptions: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=24#24 and here are some guides dealing with subtitles: http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php...=%&listallusers=&search=Search+or+List+Guides gl with your business -nomad311
