windows xp, sp2 NOT installed, 2.8ghz, 512 ram, 10GB free out of 250GB HD.. this morning, i tried burning an iso/udf data dvd with nero burning ROM 6.6.0.8. then i got an error during the burn, saying there was a tracking error. i tried the second time, and i got another tracking error message. the third time i tried, i got a Power calibration error. now, i've been burning alot of discs for the past year, and this has NEVER happend. i had actually burned a iso/udf data dvd with no error a couple days ago.. i tried using sonic recordnow!, and i got a burning error. it can't be anything wrong with the firmware, since there hasn't been an update when i checked today. i use fujifilm dvd+r, (i know it's not the best) but i've only had one coaster the past 50 discs. i thought something must be wrong with the burner itself, but i was successfully able to burn an audio cd with itunes, and another with nero.. so what in the world could be the problem? are there two lasers in a dvd burner, since i was able to burn the cds? one for burning cds and another for burning dvds? i know a lot of ppl have the same trouble.. but i've made my problem as specific as i can get..
Yes there are two different lasers in your burner!! So it could be that your laser has gone bad? Have you tried cleaning the lens? How many DVD's in all have you made with this burner and what is the make and model of it?
my drive is a Sony DRU-530A with firmware 2.1c. well the thing is, i can read/play the dvds that i burned in the past fine without any error, so could it really be the lenses? no, i have not tried cleaning the lens, since i don't want to risk scratching it while i clean it, unless i am for sure that the problem resides on the lens. i have burned just about 50 dvds, and i've had it for a little less than a year.
It should be fine the 50 disk isn't nothing... I have 600 on mine and still going strong... Try getting a comercial lens cleaner from your local electronics store they all carry them Even WalMart has them, and don't worry they don't scratch your lens..
ok, just for clarification, you mentioned that there are two lasers in my drive; so would there be two lens as well? and would i be able to use the lens cleaner for standalone dvd players on my drive, or is there a specific cleaner for computer cd/dvd drives?
No only one lens and all the DVD cleaners are the same.. For the drive you could just try some canned air too..
