Hi I'm sorry if this is a repeated request here. But I have ruined alot of disc since yesterday and its making me crazy. Every disc I burnt with nero, ashampoo or vso won't play, I've been burning with no problems for along time, but I don't know what happened. I have read and searched for this problem on this site. I have uninstalled the drivers, everything I can think off. I really don't understant how to read the logs so if someone could please help me figure this out I would be grateful. Thanks so much
Here is the log if I figure out how to add it.

    Hello.

I just quickly glanced at your log. The burner firmware and all else seems OK. However, your burner is very old technology and I didn't see the media being identified specifically by Nero. This leads me to suspect that the media isn't being properly recognized. What brand and speed of media are you using? Have you switched media from that you were previously using?

Philips uses a variety of manufacturers for their media. Some are low quality manufacturers. Also that burner is very old and I wouldn't use media rated higher than 4X for the most part. Good media is made by Taiyo Yuden (available online usually), Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony (usually Taiyo Yuden manufactured), and Verbatim.

    [bold]Edit: added text below[/bold]

You could also try using ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter to burn the DVD as well. Just make sure you output an ISO image file or an nrg file (if Nero). ImgBurn can also burn a folder of video files which DVD Decrypter cannot. However, if your authoring program outputs an image file, that'll be easier.

Hi I'm using philips dvd+R 1-16xspeed I did burn 5or6 sucessfully with this brand.
Is it possible that my burner just suddenly stopped reading them.
    Thanks Lisa

That 16X Philips media is too new to be recognized by the older burner firmware you have. In other words, your burner is using a default write strategy for burning the media. Sometimes that's successful, sometimes not. The tipoff is that Nero cannot specifically ID the media being used as reported by your burner's firmware which means that your burner's firmware doesn't have that media in its write strategy table. This is not unusual for old burners using newer media. Most manufacturers stop updating the firmware for burners after a period of time. Your burner was first issued in May 2003 which is very old in technology years, as fast as things have moved.

Philips uses one good quality manufacturer for its 16X +R media, Verbatim, one other manufacturer that has so-so media, and the rest are poor quality manufacturers.

My suggestion would be to try locating some older 4X media from Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and try using that. Your firmware should have no difficulty finding the appropriate write strategy. Another possibility if that doesn't work would be to replace your old burner with a new one. Depending where you live in the world, they can be very cheap. In the States, about $35 shipped with the best being the BenQ 1655/1650 (1st choice) or the NEC 3550 (2nd choice). I would also try using ImgBurn as I indicated above in another post. Sometimes Nero can work in strange ways with older burners and newer media.
