I've been burning backup games for my 360 for some time, I use a panasonic 110d dvd drive, with imgburn and verbatim dvd+r dl media. I always burn at 2.4x and manually set the layer break. The day before yesterday I tried to burn a backup for fable 2 and I got a coaster, the same happened with spider man. The burnt dvds look fine, but my xbox drive makes a horrible noise and I get a message saying that the dvd is scratched. If by any chance the game does load, after 1 second it fails. Nothing has changed in my computer or in the way I burn my backups, but I did buy a new batch of dvd's and that's when the problem started. I post this question since I'm not sure the dvds are the problem, because they are still verbatim dvd+r dl and they don't have any scratch on them. Has anyone had a similar problem? I'll appreciate any help, thanks.

give one of your coasters to some one else to try this will let you know wether its your xbox or computer side of it causing the problems

Not sure if this will work but you could try the fix for the open tray error. Adjust the POT setting on your laser. There are guides out there.

sounds like your laser is older and you could have gotten a bad set of verbs. with those two ingredients combined, it could make you think something awful happened. do your old backups still work? and as someone else said take these new ones that dont work to a friends house if possible, and report back.

If it's like a rattling, screeching sound, then that's your disc slipping when the read speed changes. Simple solution for that problem is to clean off the spindle. And while you're in there doing that you might as well clean the laser eye. Just use a q tip and rubbing alcohol for cleaning both.

I dont specifically.. but it will play half the games no problems, then get to a section (usually halfway through the game) and will crash. the only thing I could think of is an error in layer changes or something.

any ideas? coz Im absolutely stumped :/

So yesterday I tried playing with my other backups and they all work fine, I can play with them, install them on my hard drive, and the dvd drive doesn't make those awful noises.
I haven't tried the bad discs on another console, I'll probably get around to it this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes, but from the looks of it, I think this is a bad media problem. What puzzles me is that the dvds look like perfectly normal verbatim media.
