All of the home videos that I have burned to DVD using my new computer suddenly wont playback. In fact none of my dvd players can even read the disks anymore. I say anymore because at one time they were all readable. These disks are not more than 6 months old. When I burned them I checked each one to make sure they worked on each of my players and they did. I have some that have stopped working only after 2 weeks. When I put an effected disk in my standalone it says it cannot read. In my powermac it does not repond or mount the disk and I can hear the drive spin for a few seconds and then stop and it cycles like this indefinately and wont eject the disk. I think it may be the media because it is only on a certain brand, certain format that is having this problem. The media in question is Maxell dvd-r, all was burned on my powermac w/ a sony dw-u10a superdrive (revision a43h). Does anyone have any ideas what might have happened and more importantly, how I can recover this data?
I've no idea if such an app is available for Macs, but you might try searching for some utility to scan the discs for read errors, sounds like the media to me too. You might have some luck in our Mac forum searching for it http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/56
