Hi, I'm running XP, Nero Version 7.5.1.1 and a Pioneer
DVR-108 on Firmware Version 1.20. All has been well to
date, but just recently I'm burning coaster after coaster.
Nero always shows an error at the end of a write, but
sometimes do the disks appear to be successful. I just
ran a repair on registry and a fresh install of Nero,
    but to no avail.

I'm a newbie to examining a log from Nero, so any help
    would be most gratefully accepted.

    Hi.

Have you tried different media or is this -RW media just what you've been using to avoid making a stack of coasters?

Try burning your ISO with ImgBurn. If that works, then something is definitely wrong with Nero and we can address that.

    Edit: added link to ImgBurn

There are a couple of things in the log that need addressing.

One you don't have much free memory and this can lead to problems. Try to make sure any unnecessary programs are closed before trying to burn.

The above is a Roxio driver that may at times conflict with Nero. If problems persist, you may want to uninstall any Roxio software like Easy Media Creator and run the Roxio Zapper.

Let us know how you make out.

2 things pop out at me,
1 almost no memory left, shut down any unneeded applications and try again,
Do you or did you have Roxio installed in this computer? if so run the Roxio uninstall tool available from Roxio.

Hope this helps, I'm sure the Binkie or Gwendolin will be here soon and maybe they'll see something that I am missing.

Thanks, I'll try ImgBurn. I was using -R Princo
media on low speed burns for a long time without
any problems. I've just tried burns with new TDK
-R 1-16X speed and those are failing. I can burn VCDs
etc on CDs without any drama but DVDs always fail
or Nero reports errors. The RW TDK disks that I have
used before now sometimes work okay, but other times
    they also fail.

    Thanks

    Hi.

TDK uses several different manufacturers for its branded media. The media you're using, although branded TDK, was actually made by Ricoh. The best media is made by Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden (TY). TY media is available online. Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony media is also usually made by Taiyo Yuden. Princo is not good quality media for the most part. I would avoid it.

Your burner firmware is up to date.

You might also try dropping down to Nero 7.0.8.2 if this newest version of Nero continues to cause problems. I still use Nero 6.6.0.18 myself because it seems to be bug free, a claim that's hard to make for almost all versions of Nero 7. Be sure to run a Nero Clean Tool before installing an update to a new version or a downgrade to an old version. Let's see what happens with ImgBurn first.

    Hi, and thanks.

I tried using Ashampoo Burning Studio with some success,
but its log showed up some CRC errors with the data I was
trying to burn. Since XP was also playing up, I have re-
installed Windows on a reformatted C drive partition, freed
up memory, and problems continue with any programs and media
I have tried. My spindles are shrinking rapidly.

At what stage can I tell if my Pioneer DVR-108 is to blame?

    Thanks.

    Hi.

ImgBurn is a simple program that basically does one thing and does it well -- burn DVDs. Create an ISO image file as the output from whatever program you're using to author/reauthor your DVD. Then use ImgBurn to burn that image file. If that works then you'll know the burner is working OK. If not, then something is amiss. The only way to know for sure if your burner is bad is to install it on another system and see if it does the same thing there. If you're still using Princo media, that could be the problem.
