These days Nero seems to be going through periods of working and not working. The other day I was burning some video files to a disc with no problems, saved files to about 6 discs before it suddenly decided it couldn't do anymore. It's not working today either.

    I saved this error log:

I tried asking for help elsewhere and one person said:

"One thing that jumps out in there is
"Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ?"

That MAY indicate that you don't have the motherboard chipset drivers installed and/or the drives are not running in DMA mode.

    Check in device manager.
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Primary IDE channel> advance settings. Report what you see there. Repeat for Secondary IDE channel."

    My response:

"I don't think I have a Secondary IDE Channel. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers I get Primary IDE Channel and
    Intel® 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 266F.

    For the Primary IDE Channel:
    Device 0
    - Device Type: Auto Detection
    - Transfer Mode: DMA if available
    - Current Tranfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5 Device 1
    - Device Type: Auto Detection
    - Transfer Mode: DMA if available
    - Current Tranfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2"

But I never got an answer. xDD

Another person asked "Did you change the manufacturer for the discs you are using?"

I always use several different discs. I have always done and have never had a problem before so I don't think that is the problem...

The same person suggested my drive could be going bad, which is possible I suppose since my laptop is getting on in years but if that is the case then I really need to find a way to get my files off there.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

It does not sound “Suddenly” to me. Your DMA seems on. Your primary channel master is your HD and slave is your burner. I don’t think you have drives for your secondary as you said.

    You may try,
Give your drive (lens) a good cleaning.
Check your laptop manufacturer’s web site for the newer firmware for your drive.
Your posted log is with RW media. Is media brand new? If not, try new media and slow the speed. Also try other type, like –R/+R.
Though I think your drive is giving up.
