I just wanted say thanks to the posters here, I have successfully burned the game.

I was having the white screen after loading problem.
Followed the layer break instructions in imgburn on a Sony DL x 2.4 on a Samsung DVD-Writer.

and now tada works perfectly on my

    D2Ckey.

i did a no no and bought nexxtech discs at circuit city tonight. I saw some sonys 36 bucks for 3 discs at best buy and said f--- that. But i shouldve just been patient, yes i did get one disc of 3 to work so far but that really just sucks. The 5 back came out to 20 bucks, so its only worth it if i get the other 2 discs to work.

first disc burned with nero straight at 8x- didnt work
second disc burned with img burn at 4x- and break set, didnt work
third disc burned at 8x with img burn and break set, works

wiikey 1.9g (also had some issues, had to reflash twice tonight)
    launch wii

get -R media best i would say are verbatims, dont ask, just do it.

i would contest that for a few reasons on how -R DL treat layer breaks. that and the fact that most have gotten +R DL to work.

either way, glad to see you've got it going and that -R DL actually works for some (though I think most of us i actually find it harder to find -R DL).

Just wondering if anyone out there has gotten the wizard iso to work with a pal wii with wiikey, if so were there any special steps you had to apply to get it to work?

Interesting, Ill have to buy a couple of Verbatim discs to see if they will do the trick. It might also be my burner, its roughly around 3+ years old. Has done me pretty good and its made by Sony.

I was able to test this and confirm that it works on SSBB (although I'm sure it's already been confirmed previously).

Here is what to do to get Brawl working on a Single Layer DVD...

    1. Obtain a copy of the full DVD 9 version of Brawl.

    2. Obtain a copy of WiiScrubber. You can find it here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=1863

    3. Obtain a copy of key.bin (I won't give a link to it as I believe it can get me and the forums in trouble, but you can definitely find it on newsgroups and maybe torrents. Just look around.

    4. Make sure you have WiiScrubber and key.bin in the same directory (make sure they are both in the same folder) as WiiScrubber won't open unless you have key.bin

    5. Run WiiScrubber and click "Load ISO"

    6. Find the SSBB iso on your computer and open it.

    7. You should now see a bunch of stuff such as "WII DISC", "partition00", "partition01", etc.

    8. You do not have to open any of that stuff. Simply click "Clear and Save ISO"

    9. The program will not overwrite the DVD9 version, it will make a second .iso file for Brawl. This means you don't need a copy of the DVD9 version since you will have one when the program is done scrubbing. This also means that you will need to make sure there is at least 4.5GB available for the new iso.

    10. Once the program is done, take the new iso and burn it like normal on a regular DVD.

Hopefully this helps some people who just want to get started on the versus mode and can wait on the one player adventure mode.

I've read of PAL success in this thread.

What exactly do you call special steps? i.e. IMO there are "special" steps to take in any case when playing ANY out of region game and this thread is dedicated to those...

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/523776

If you are aware of region brick etc. and how to avoid it then all you need to do is read up through this thread about what ppl are saying with regards to media choice, burning speeds and layer breaks etc.

It's not really that much trouble once you find the key.bin file. And the problem with DL disks is not only that they are more expensive, but they also don't have as high of a successful burn rate as regular DVDs, so some people end up going through 5 DL DVDs and still can't get it to work.

Got my backup working just fine. Thanks for all the great tips on this thread. This is what I did.

    What I have:
    NTSC Wii Console 3.2 frimware
    WiiKey with 1.9G

    1. I updated my Wii to lastest firmware 3.2 via WiFi.
    2. Burned SSBB ISO at x2.4 speed using ImageBurn v2.4 on Verbatim DL +R. Didn't set the layer the brake.
    3. Then did the update on the SSBB game itself.
And the game works just fine. WiFi Brawl works great also.

Thanks for all the tips on this thread.

i think it just takes a lot more resources and a better computer to burn a DL disc. that's part of the issue -- some have older model burners that need firmware updates, and an unfortunate few will never get a new firmware update. and some people don't even have a DL DVD burner at home, period. if the computer still works for most other things...why get a new one just yet? but all that can contribute to burn issues on top of just the media.

then there is the broke and lazy problem... :p j/k

My Wiikey has never been updated to 1.9b. Do I need to update it to 1.9b before I update it to 1.9g or can I just go ahead and update it right to 1.9g?

    Thanks

then I downloaded the 1.9gBootUSA.ZIP from the "firmware" page ... and I just jump directly from 1.2 to 1.9g ... never used 1.9b

My Wii is an NTSC version 3.2U and is modded with WiiKey with the 1.9g update. I bought a retail copy of Brawl and it will not work.

According to this thread I need to crash my WiiKey Software, I just want to confirm that after I use the 1.9b disc to crash the WiiKey Software (making my Wii not able to play backed up games), will I be able to use the 1.9g disc to reinstall the software to play backed up games again?

I bought my Wii premodded with the 1.9g update already so I am new to this whole thing. Any help is greatly appreciated. I just want to confirm before I screw up my Wii. Thanks!

Edit: I downloaded the 1.9g USA update and the 1.9b already formatted and ready to burn from the pinned thread in this forum. Is it Ok if I burned each of these to separate Sony DVD+R SingleLayered disc? Or should I use Memorex DVD-Rs?

No problem here. Had success the 1st time. Used Memorex DVD+R DL @ 2.4x. Burned w/Nero Express using a Mad Dog 18X Triple Format DVD-RW drive. Also make sure that you have nothing running in the backgorund. Was able to successfully update and play. Game runs quietly.
